阿蓋爾阿姆酒店(Argyll Arms Hotel)

Situated right on the main street, I booked this more for convenience than anything else and at £114 per night, I was expecting a decent experience. Car parking at the rear and a bar serving alcohol…what can go wrong? There’s no lift but that’s OK, I can manage easily enough to the first floor…although I’m always suspicious when I get handed an actual door key as opposed to a card. Yikes…someone’s at the wind up surely! Last refurbished in 1983, there’s an old-fashioned steel radiator that is turned off…but only look warm after having been turned on for an hour…room is Baltic. No heating source whatsoever in the bathroom…it’ll be freezing in the morning. A small electric heater is the only device available which after several hours, surprisingly does help to defrost the room….there’s condensation on the outside of the window! :) By now I’m thinking that if it wasn’t almost dark and Winter, I would have picked up my case and left but sadly I have no option but to stay here…only one night thankfully.

Dieses Hotel ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Es ist verwinkelt und hat ein Hinterhaus. Wir hatten 4 Zimmer, diese waren renoviert und es gab sogar neue Bäder, allerdings ohne Heizung. Die Fenster ließen sich nicht schließen, vorhandene Heizkörper waren aus dem letzten Jahrhundert. Mal funktionierten sie, mal nicht. Der Speisesaal (es war wirklich ein Saal) war sehr kalt und die Frühstücksauswahl recht überschaubar. Die Bedienungen im Speisesaal waren unfreundlich. Es wurde nicht gefragt ob man noch Kaffee oder Toast brauchte, im Gegenteil, dem Wunsch nach mehr Kaffee wurde mit dem Hinweis, dass es schon gleich 9 Uhr ist, nicht entsprochen. Wir haben uns dort nicht wohl gefühlt. Am schlechtesten aber waren die Matratzen. In allen 4 Zimmern waren sie durchgelegen und wirklich am Ende. Schade!

Great location on the main street. Not far from shops, pubs and the harbour. Spacious room (only thing was our view was of a side alley and scaffolding). Great snug bar and lunches/dinners available in bar, front lounge area or dining room. We had dinner one of the nights and it was excellent. Breakfast was good also. Staff very friendly. Also free parking at the back of hotel.
