Roomy, very comfy bed, easy check in. Washer and dryer wasn't working but we didn't need them anyway. Convenient to all that Chincoteague had to offer, shopping dining etc. The only con was the bathroom was in need of updating and maintenance, the Mrs found some nasty looking substance in the shower head which would indicate the cleaning service needs to pay a little more attention when cleaning.

The room was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The price was right. Although we did not swim the outdoor pool and gazebo looked inviting. Having the coffee pot fridge microwave and iron was very convenient. Self check in and check out make things quick and convenient. We would stay there again

The room was very run down. There was no toilet paper in our room on the first day. There is a pier to walk to across the road but the roof was being replaced and you couldn’t fish after dark which is what we wanted to do. We ended canceling and staying somewhere else that day. I booked through ******* and when we tried to cancel with the motel staff they told us to cancel through ******* which I did but the Birchwood still charged me the full amount to the card on file. Do not recommend this place.

Booked the family room for one night and thank goodness it was only one night. Was advertised to have 1 queen, 2 standard but all 3 were standard. Kitchenett was useless as while there is a stove top not one pot, pan, plate, piece of service ware anywhere. Microwave at the other end of the room antique and had incorrect sized plate in and thumped withevery turn. Do not let the pictures fool you. Floor was dark worn bare wood which appeared to be the sub floor sanded down and painted and dirty, appeared to not have been scrubbed for very long time. Huge hole in bathroom wall behind the door. Numerous globs of tape on ceiling appearing to be left over from items being taped there for a party. The place was not clean, bright and tidy as in the pictures, it and everything in it was dank and grungy.

To start off my raving review, the staff and owners here are amazing! Professional yet warm and friendly. Happily accommodating, to say the least. The efficiency room we stayed in, was recently remodeled, very spacious and clean. The nightly and weekly rates are reasonably priced. Did I mention customers have access to free washers & dryers here?!?! So no need to travel with tons of extra luggage or take home tons of dirty laundry after your vacation. Such a huge plus! My son and service dog love it here. Being right beside the carnival grounds is absolutely perfect for the summer. Looking forward to walking to the carnival this summer to enjoy their yummy food. A few of my favorites, and a must try, oyster & clam fritters, carnival pizza & funnel cakes. You’re literally feet away from the beautiful Chincoteague pony’s. So grab your free coffee and continental breakfast, take the couple min walk to the carnival to admire the Chincoteague pony’s. Then after a long day at the beach, you will be able relax in the pool. Oh J&B subs is only a 5 min walk, yummy! The island has many wonderful restaurants and shops to enjoy. Two of my absolute favorite places, that I highly recommend are, The Village restaurant (w/5 star food & a friendly laid back atmosphere) and Island Roots. Both owned by a wonderful family. I would highly recommend staying at the Birchwood on the beautiful Chincoteague Island Va. I know I will be 😁

My husband and I used to stay here for vacations from 2001 to 2006. Such a quaint little place. The pictures on the website have to be 20 years old, apparently they were never updated. On this stop over, our first room was so bad we had to get another room which was worse. The first room, tiles were ready to fall from the ceiling, the doors to the connecting room were wide open, sheets were clean but pillows were piled up on the nightstand, there were no blankets, the curtains were hanging off the rod. Now, for the second room, there was a big burn in the carpet, long black hair in the bed and sink, the flies were already in the room when we opened the door, the paint was separating from the wall, a big wad of hair floated across the tile floor as I walked by (I thought it was a spider but it was a hair wad), the refrigerator was room temperature and there were big cob webs lurking around. I truly do not know where these positive reviews came from (of course we all know). The rundown shape of this motel took years of neglect, not a few weeks. For $195.00 a night, I expected more.

We weren’t expecting the Ritz. Good thing, too. We were expecting floors that weren’t sticky under bare feet, a tub/shower combo with an actual shower curtain, a toilet that didn’t have to be babysat and reflushed three or four times, and a bed that didn’t leave us feeling like someone had taken a baseball bat to our ribs and back. We were sorely disappointed. The stairs are oddly steep (but there are only a few of them), the stair railings wobbly and freakishly short, as if made for children. The door to the unit had a noticeable gap up top, which meant we were killing flies all night. The bathroom door stuck, as a kind of bonus. The sheets had a few faint brownish marks, and the pool was tiny, with the pool area cluttered. Oh, also—very few towels, and they were super-low quality. Small, dingy-looking, and a bit threadbare. Luckily, we brought our own. On the bright side? Location is good. Parking was available in front of the unit. The microwave and mini-fridge worked. Pillows were okay. Had this place been going for 80 bucks a night, I’d have considered it a case of getting what we paid for. A decent deal. But at more than twice that? Yeah, no.

The motel was wonderful. The manager, Jennifer, was very helpful, informative and friendly. The room was very clean, and comfortable, the air conditioning worked great and the shower was hot. There is nothing negative I could possibly say about this motel. I wish there were more like it! I would highly recommend this property.

No full time staff, no working washer and dryer, soda machine broken, flies were terrible, food from previous renter in the cabinets, noisy AC, only got 3 towels and 2 washcloths (wound up buying our own)for the whole week, no bedspreads (just a paper thin sheet type blanket), overcharged $50 and took a week to get it back, requested the room to be cleaned and no one ever came (wound up doing it myself), pool dirty. I would rate it a negative, but a 1 was the lowest I could go.

MY biggest reason for a less-than-positive review is that the front office is not staffed regularly. When we arrived, there was no one there and I had to call the number on the door twice before I contacted a person. Even then, it was a long wait before someone came to check us in. We ran into another problem the next day when our key cards did not work and no one was in the office to fix them. We didn't have long to wait that time. The facilities themselves are adequate and clean. The bed was very comfortable, although the room was small and did not have a desk.

This is an older property, so don't expect luxury. The value is good compared to an Island where the price of everything is increasing substantially. What I liked best about this place were the people. The office and service staff are very friendly and accommodating. Additionally, the location is perfect if you are interested in going to Chincoteague during the pony penning week. They are right next to the carnival grounds.

Great place with a great price here on business and when we found this place with kitchettes we very happy. The customer service was wonderful the ladies made you feel welcomed .upon inspection of the rooms they are very clean and look recently remodeled .our company booked four rooms all are very clean and again the ladies kept the rooms clean and treated us very well

This was a “ last minute” weekday trip to Chincoteague. Rooms were available and affordable for Chincoteague in August. The room was clean and modern. The staff is outstanding! I’m done with this review but TripAdvisor requires reviews to be at least 200 characters so I’m now done.

Birch wood is an older motel but the room was large and clean. I was there during a real heat wave and the room stayed as cool as I needed it. Breakfast was a bit sparse, but the refrigerator and microwave worked well for my needs.
