We just returned from a lovely, four night stay at the Polar Inn and Suites in the heart of Churchill, Manitoba. The rooms are comfortable and cozy. The Inn itself is in close proximity to the main area of town, many of the Seawall Murals and the best part of all the beautiful community beach park! An amazing place to grab a coffee or a glass of wine and watch the majestic Beluga Whales frolic in the Hudson Bay. The staff at the Polar Inn are down to earth, accommodating and knowledgeable; in our opinion they are the biggest assets to the Inn! A BIG shout out to the front desk staff Aubrie and Erin, who always greeted us with a warm smile and happily answered my countless questions. Thank-you for making our stay a memorable one! The Inn offers a lovely continental breakfast but, be sure to get there early if you want to sample the delicious fresh made waffles. Some rooms also have a kitchen to cook your own meals if you are looking for a more budget friendly option. However, be prepared that groceries in Churchill or food in general is expensive due to the mode of transport used to get it there. There are some lovely restaurants close to the Inn as well, the Tundra Inn being our favourite. The homemade vegetarian borealis and bison burgers were delicious. The Inn is also home to Sea North Tours where you can book a variety of amazing tours and get a firsthand experience with the town of Churchill and it’s awe inspiring nature/wildlife. They are an eco friendly company and the only ones that have protective prop guards on their boats to protect the belugas from injury. Something that was important to us when booking our tours. We booked the kayak and zodiac tour with the Belugas and both exceeded our expectations! We loved the kayak tour so much that we booked a second time but sadly Mother Nature had other plans that day and it was cancelled due to inclement weather. However, getting the chance to spend a couple of hours amongst these beautiful creatures, on our first tour, was heaven on earth and something we will treasure within our hearts. Oh and did I mention the guides… Nikia was our fun spirited, home grown zodiac guide who hands down made our trip even more amazing. We enjoyed hearing about her experiences growing up in Churchill and her love of the wildlife that call Churchill home. Her special, secret treat was one of the highlights along with getting to see our first polar bear in the wild. Unfortunately, we can’t reveal her secret treat so, you will have to go on the tour to experience it for yourself. Sea North Tours… hang on to this girl cause she is a Churchill gem! Thank-you to the staff at the Polar Inn and Sea North Tours for making our first trip to Churchill one we will never forget. We hope that one day, we will be blessed to once again get the chance to visit this beautiful piece of Canadian wilderness!
