Booked for 2 nights as my partner and I were attending a wedding near by. The hotel itself was rather run down and could be doing with refurbishment. We were in an attic room which was a very tight squeeze to get up stairs to the room. Very low ceilings and the shower in the bathroom was just above tap height on the wall so showering wasn't ideal. The bed was comfortable which was a plus but the bathroom definitely didn't look clean! Our key was left for our arrival so can't comment on check in etc. The morning we were packing up to leave the fire alarm in our room went off for a few minutes. I gent then chapped our door to ask what was going on and if we were smoking in the room which I confirmed we weren't!! He said we had to be careful with steam from the shower as it had set all the alarms in the building off! We didn't do anything to set the alarm off so the systems maybe need to be checked as have saw in previous reviews this had happened before!! The location was perfect. Only downfall was alot of cafes in the area don't open till 10am. Friendly lady on reception helped us check out but overall wouldn't stay again unfortunately.
My wonderful partner took me here for my birthday as a wee night get away. The Castle itself is stunning and nestled in behind the trees so close to the A9 yet you seem a million miles away. The views are breathtaking! Upon arrival greeted by 2 lovely men sorry didnt catch their names they carried out bags , parked the car and gave me a umbrella to save my hair from the rain! Legend 😉. The receptionist I found to be quite cold and abrupt. The room was one of the lodges and it was perfect Large in size it was clean and had everything you needed. With dressing grown and slippers. The large shower was great and bathroom was clean only down point the shower base had some marks on it. The biggest down point of the room was the bed.... it was massive like 2 mattresses thick and extremely soft unfortunately I suffer with slipped discs so the worse thing for me is a soft mattress and this was extremely soft and I woke up in the morning crying in pain having my disc slipped which still suffering week later to try get it back in. Maybe soft bed is some peoples cup of tea but unfortunately not personally for me and has left me in alot of pain. We dined at the hotel aswell the food was nice but my chicken still had raw bits which I left as I dont like complaining. The restaurant staff where nice and professional but would of been nice to get abit of banter with them and a conversation. We also made use of the spa the staff there were very friendly and cheeful had a good laugh unfortunately left it to late to book treatments but will try another time. The pool was on the cold side the hot tubs were great and we got lucky we picked a quite time. The sauna and steam room both great and spa is nicely furnished.
