Large, well run hotel about 20 mins by road from Ballarat. Very nice staff, considering it must be hard to get staff as I imagine most have to drive out from Ballarat on dark roads to cover the 24 hour shifts, and staff the hotel, two restaurants and golf facilities. All the basics are covered- comfortable beds, good hot showers, very clean, nice large rooms with big balconies. Minor comments below but overall I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Remarkable to have such a busy, top rate hotel in such an isolated spot. There are two restaurants on site, open at different times but no room service. Open at 7 am & close relatively early at 9 pm. The breakfast isn’t great- lots of lovely looking food which is strangely bland and made from cheap ingredients/recycled day to day. Probably a sound business decision as the restaurant has a “posh nursing home” vibe to the decor and it’s full of elderly Boomers and wheelie walkers (sense of taste declines with age). No microwave in rooms which is a pain in a hotel where the restaurant closes by a relatively early 9 pm. Good options in Creswick for breakfast, especially La Peche Gourmand. There is a gym but it’s tricky to find and closes at 9 pm. Sometimes the staff will let you cut through the restaurant, but mostly you need to walk outside. It’s busy in the morning, deserted at night. Reasonably adequate. Two treadmills, a couple of bikes, free weights and some weight machines. No aerobics step. You can do mat work in there but it’s a squeeze if the place is busy. Main drawback is that there is a steep walk from the parking to reception, which is impossible to do with luggage if you’re a solo traveller- and there’s nowhere to park to collect your luggage or even check in. Everyone ignores the no parking signs and parks on the driveway as there is no other option. You will struggle to get one of the few disability parking bays unless you are at the hotel during the day or get in early. EV charging is a bit of an issue. There is a Chargefox on site but you need to BYO cable (no loaner cables from reception either). The charger in Creswick has been out of action for months due to vandalism (Oct 2023). Plenty of options in Ballarat including a Tesla supercharger.
