You always know what to expect at the Washington Duke. It is an old fashioned hotel, not particularly modern, but traditional, well maintained, clean and well located for the Duke campus.
There are not many good options in Durham, but this one is a generally good choice. Some rooms have better views but they are pretty much the same otherwise.

It was very nice. We stayed in the family suite which had a king bed and two bunk beds around the corner from the main room in an alcove. We stayed after a admissions Duke tour and rushed out to get to chapel service at Duke in the morning, so we didn’t get to enjoy the amenities of the hotel much.

The property used to be a 5-star hotel but it clearly has not been maintained and is in desperate need of major renovations. The room was dated with scratches all over the wooden floor, light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom and cup stains on the nightstands. The elevator cabins were trashed too.

I’m going to start with a positive! Absolutely beautiful facility with amazing friendly staff! The only reason I gave it issues with the stars is because the bad and the pillows for so uncomfortable that it was literally impossible to sleep!!! The pillows were so hard and wide that I felt like I was sleeping sitting up! Besides, that absolutely beautiful place! My husband felt the same way! Also, even though it says it’s a VIP property they said they do not accept any ******* Vip parks!

This is the best place to stay close to the Duke undergrad campus, law school or FUQUA. With the gift shop closed early they should have a vending machine somewhere.

This place is old and tired compared to 21C and others. I couldn’t even keep a hair drying in my room as housekeeping kept taking it. It really needs updating.

The property is spacious and pretty. Distinct style. Some areas need to be updated/maintained - the hot tub, the fire sprinklers in our room were rusted, and the family suite bunk bed had wood slats that weren't attached.
