愛丁堡斯派爾斯服務式公寓酒店(The Spires Serviced Apartments Edinburgh)

I had a great time during my stay. The room was clean and equipped with complete amenities and even kitchen tools. I just wished my room had a better city view. My window was facing the garage of neighboring establishments and every time they sort out the bins, I can loudly hear all the noise from my room. But aside from that, I was happy with everything.

This accommodation was in a very central location and easy to access the city on foot. Unfortunately, this is where the positive attributes of these apartment's end. We were lied to, our room wasn't available, little to no apology was received for delay, it was very noisy outside the apartments, we found a beetle in our sink, check-in times versus check-out times is criminal, and we had to pay a hefty deposit for the pleasure - complete nightmare start to our trip. We arrived in Edinburgh very early Saturday morning and had been told that the Reception of these apartments was closed on the weekends so the keys could be accessed in a lockbox within the building for check-in at 2pm. As there was supposedly no reception on this day there was nowhere we could leave our bags before this. However, 2pm rolls around and there are no keys in the lockbox - a staff member walked past us twice and mentioned nothing. Another large group came into the tiny corridor where again we sat for another 10 mins with no keys and no staff member in sight. Eventually another woman appeared and when we expressed our dissatisfaction she incredulously stated 'I'm on my own, what do you want me to do' - 2 mins later 2 men walked past supposedly cleaning rooms so she was not in fact 'on her own'. This lady was 'manning' reception (and I use that term very loosely) but there were very clearly bags being stored behind her - we were expressly told this wasn't an option (had we known we could have made the most of our morning). At 2:20, we were told our room is not ready but will be in 5 mins (another lie). She then disappears for 10 mins and even her coworkers cleaning the rooms have no idea where she is. At 2:40 our room is still not ready, and no explanation as to why they were unable to clean 6 rooms between 10 am and the 2pm check-in - the 'excuse' used was they were training a new agency staff member on how to clean the rooms which was taking time - there were 4 staff total and they couldn't clean 6 rooms between them? Unbelievable. The group who arrived just after us to check-in had 2 rooms booked, which appeared to be the same as our 1 room. Instead of giving us each 1 room, we were made to wait which didn't make sense - seemed there was a interim solution that could have worked but there was no thought at all. Unrelated to our room, but another group who checked in didn't have a key as the staff 'misplaced it' - can you really consider yourself checked-in if you don't receive a key? There's a nightclub directly below the apartments and between 1am - 3am there was so much noise on the street directly under our apartment, it was impossible to sleep through it. This isn't mentioned anywhere when you book, save for the reviews, and it feels misleading to not mention this when you book.

Ok so first impressions were mixed…. As we had masses of trouble with email’s asking for deposits over and over again.. even though we paid it on the first request. Arrived and there was no working lift and there was bags of laundry blocking the stairs to go up so we had to clamber over them on the 1st floor. Walking up to the apartment door the light outside was constantly flickering. And you could immediately hear the other apartment doors banging. The apartment was clean, toiletries in the bathroom to use and also some starter tea tray etc. Thankfully we automatically assumed it would be loud being in Hanover street where there is bars, clubs and a bus stop right outside. It was loud but not as bad as I had originally thought. Like other reviews state I would not bring children here if you want an early night for them. Luckily we don’t beg that issue and travel light as just a couple. My main gripe really is the outside door locked but the interior one which says keep locked wasn’t lockable at all and There was as no pillow case protectors or duvet one and the mattress protector was not fixed into position as it’s flaps were broken off on one side so daily has to re arrange the sheets as it was just sliding off. The pillows were covered in sweat stains and there were stains in the mattress protector as well. I always bring spare towels to cover pillows for this very issue. As I like to clean before I leave anywhere I found just a dust pan and brush to sweep the kitchen area floor… well I had to give up as it was the most vintage one I have ever tried. It was battered in other people hair and fluff. No hoover/carpet sweeper to run over the carpets. The apartment tho was lovely with lovely views, the bed was comfy for a few nights, there is more than adequate kitchen facilities, which we didn’t use due to being on holiday and feeling lazy due to the closeness of surrounding eateries. We would come back as it was what we needed for our stay due to its central location, staff who checked us in were lovely and apologised for the lift. Which was working by the next day thankfully as we was on the top floor. Didn’t see any staff after this but the welcome pack stated all we needed to know.

le spires est très bien situé dans le centre ville d'Edinbourg, il y a un arrêt de bus juste devant, ce qui facilite les déplacements. au niveau de l'hôtel, le service est 'minimum', il ne faut rien demander à la réception, du reste il n'y a pratiquement personne au desk. il est écrit que le linge est changé une fois par semaine et le ménage est fait au même rythme, nous sommes restés 10 nuits, il a fallu que je discute pour avoir du linge de toilette propre, il a fallu aussi une 'concertation' entre manager et employés pour que j'obtienne qu'ils passent l'aspirateur (il y a de la moquette partout) dans les 2 appartements au bout de quelques jours ; et nous avons acheté notre papier hygiénique pour la petite histoire. ensuite, le samedi soir, il faut prévoir des boules quiès ou de sortir très tard car il y a un bar juste en dessous d'où les jeunes sortent en gros groupes jusqu'à 3h00 du matin et crient et rigolent sans arrêt. ce qui est très inconfortable.

A mixed review - apartments themselves were very comfortable. However, my room was on the second floor and above a pub/club, which lead to considerable noise until 345am - it might not be every night, but I would expect Thursday through Sunday (at least). Appreciate that it's outside of the control of Spires, but contributed to a grim night of little sleep.

I booked these apartments as I was staying in the city for a few days with work. I was pleasantly surprised, as this was my second visit here. What a difference! You can tell someone cares! I was welcomed by the Manager, Anthony. He was very informative and professional. The smell was absolutely amazing as you walked in. The apartment was spotless, there was little signs of wear and tear bit you can expect this from apartments for short term let. The apartment was equipped with everything you needed, Anthony even provided me with a Vase! Check out was seamless and a taxi was ordered for me to the station and luggage stored. All in all 10/10 experience.

We had booked a one bedroom and we’re given a studio. The apartment had not been cleaned, kitchen floor was sticky, chattered glass on the carpet, radiator thermostat head was broken and on the floor. Impossible to close the velux. Hair around the bathroom sink. Lift was not working and we were on the third floor. Other guests came in at 03:30am drunk and making a lot of noise on the same floor as us. Street noise all through the night despite being a Sunday night. Won’t return to this place.
