I am a long time customer of this property, having come here approximately once per year for about a dozen years or so. However, at this most recent visit, the property was being refurbished, with the hotel lobby unusable and many other amenities unavailable (exercise room, pool). There was extensive dirt and dust, with many rooms under construction and many workers present even on a weekend. All of this might have been OK, but the problem is that I paid what appeared to be full price (I paid well over $200 with tax included for one night). I feel taken advantage of, as I thought I was simply paying for a room in a hotel operating under normal circumstances, but clearly this was a long planned event at the hotel and the hotel still had an unacceptably high price set at ******* during the days that they knew there would be refurbishment activity. Also unacceptable was that I attempted to speak to the manager while I was there (the manager did not speak with me), I also called the hotel when I returned home the next day (was told the manager would call me back), and finally the next day I called ******* who called the hotel as well and said the manager would call me. I still have not spoken to a manager. The front desk also said they did not know how to give me a discount since I booked through Travelocity/*******. I am surprised as a long time customer to have been treated this way and plan to avoid Holiday Inn Express in Pekin in the future.
