So, we booked a room, for one night, several months ago, via a well known hotel booking site. We arranged an early check-in, because we were going to a wedding, so needed to get in early, get changed, then go. This was agreed, we were told to turn up around 12.00. We also received an email confirming our stay a few days before. We turn up. It looks grim, it looks closed. The entry door is locked, so we venture around the back, as there's a big gate. Now, we assign no blame to the two members of staff we encountered, as this was not their fault. A very smiley lady was there, cleaning and she beckoned us in, but she wasn't able to understand what we were saying. A young girl then appeared, again, very smiley and helpful, but she told us the hotel was closed and not taking any bookings. We explained our situation, so she got the owner on the phone. The owner didn't care at all. Their attitude was it wasn't their problem and we should take it up with them. Maybe there is an element of truth to this, they were just rude and dismissive. You'd think if you take over a hotel you take over the bookings and the responsibility for what are now your guests. Apparently not. Just don't bother. There are several other much better places in Royston, or the surrounding area. This place does not deserve your business. Avoid at all costs!
