Be warned - Avoid this hotel. I had such a horrible, horrendous and the worst stay ever at this property. The status of the room was soo filthy, unacceptable and in the worst state ever. I have never ever been in any property Marriott or otherwise that has these extreme, grave and serious uncleanliness among other issues. The room hadn't been cleaned and it was not known when it had last been cleaned. Worse, it was evident that deep cleaning never takes place as well as the serious absence of oversight and supervision including monitoring of the rooms, its contents and above all cleanliness. From blood soiled beddings including duvet, curtains, curtain sheers to accumulated heavy dirt and dust across all corners of the room. I never ruled out the existence of bedbugs in my room - due to unexplained blood soiled linen, curtains, sheers etc. (see photos). I experienced serious allergies due to these extreme grave and unacceptable uncleanliness of the room. Extremely poor management. Zero quality control. I'm never coming back.

The Reception Staff is fantastic. The restaurant is great. The conference rooms are great. The rating would have been a full 5 but the cleaning crew turned the AC off while cleaning and didnt turn it back on when leaving so the room got hot and took hours to cool again. And the cleaning crew often shorted me on towels and washclothes. I had to ask for an iron and it was removed from the room the next day. Some glitches but otherwise an excellent stay.

Having moved rooms today to try and get away from the noise of very loud music, I waited for nearly 2 hours for room service - promised in 40-50 minutes. After 2 calls where I was promised my food was being plated and it still didn’t arrive, I tried to call room service to cancel the order. As no one was bothering to answer the phone at this point, I called reception to explain the situation and cancel the order. The receptionist was totally unbothered… Not somewhere I would recommend. Service appalling and noise does not make for a very satisfying stay.

Although the rooms are large, there is no service. It took three phone calls to reception to arrange a set of towels during my three-night stay. After the first night, there was no hot. No matter how many times I went to the front desk to report it, nothing changed. Very depressing!

I never write reviews but today I must. I wish I had read the reviews before checking into this place. I am awake 11.30pm with loud music from a club after waiting for hours to check in and get some sleep. This is torture! BE WARNED: this is not a good stay. You will seriously regret spending your money and time here. I had made a booking for a colleague but U am cancelling and sending them to a different location. Such disregard and disrespect to guests!!!

Great hotel, comfortable spacious rooms, with friendly reception staff. Breakfast was abundant and the staff making coffee was super friendly and helpful. The gym was adequate with treadmills and weights and was not busy around 6am. Close to where we needed to be.

We enjoyed our stay at the Protea. The hotel is clean and well kept. The room was spacious and comfortable. Reception staff was courteous and helpful. My only negative point was the service at breakfast. While we were greeted by name, we often were left searching for our coffee and tea to go with breakfast. Carlitos is great with excellent service at dinner. We used the laundry service which is top notch and very much appreciated!

I have been to this hotel thrice in May and my experience has been underwhelming. Initially, I was here for the Forbes Summit and the hotel had no room service after 10 pm even though most of the guests that were here were here for the summit. We had requested that they please extend room service even if they offered sandwiches, we just wanted something substantial before bed. Bear in mind, nothing in the city is open so we had to settle for crisps from the garage every other night because the hotel didn't bother to hear any of our requests although they could have made extra money during this period. On my current trip, the remote for the TV didn't work and the TV automatically kept skipping stations although I was not using the remote. I wanted to take a shower after dinner (bear in mind I took a shower before dinner which was amazing - ample hot water) but the water ran cold on the same setting. When I called the reception they asked me to run the water for 10 minutes plus. This is ridiculous and defeats the water-saving initiatives they advertise in the bathrooms??? The water never became hot and had to go to bed without taking a shower. I cannot wait to stay at another hotel, because this isn't it... please know that I work in the hospitality industry and used to work for the group and held it in high regard, but this was a waste of money. I will rather ask the Hilton for contracted rates.
