I would have given the hotel 2 out of 5 had it been in a town. I recognise some of the problems could be due to the remote location so have made it 3. Judging by other reviews there have been similar problems for years - I found a review from 2006 with some of the same complaints, so they seem to be long-standing. Good: - The hosts were friendly and welcoming - The hotel grounds were attractive - The location was very peaceful Neutral: - Breakfast was fine - There is nothing by way of shops or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel so having your own transport is essential. Just a fact of the location - this may or may not bother you. Bad: - The price - I paid £260 for 2 nights. Admittedly it was June, so close to peak season, but I paid £20 a night less for a very modern hotel in Ullapool that was frankly better in every way. The website advertises £85 per person, dinner bed and breakfast. I was told in advance there would be no dinner so unsure why it was actually £130. The website needs to be updated to reflect the current price and offering. - No WiFi in the room, and in the common areas it either didn’t work, or was terribly slow. This made planning my trip and doing basics like checking email and sending messages very difficult. I had no mobile phone reception so the WiFi was crucial. - No TV in the room - not a problem for me, but some may be put off. There’s a TV lounge upstairs. - My room was advertised as a queen bed but was actually two twins side by side. The mattress was memory foam, which is a poor choice for a hotel because it becomes lumpy with different people sleeping on it over time. - Cleanliness could have been better - I found hair in the bath and on the toilet within minutes of arriving, and I hadn’t gone looking for it. Seal under the bath screen hadn’t been cleaned, as I found when I pulled it out to reach the taps. - Bath water was brown and had things floating in it. Other reviews say this is due to peat in the area - I don’t know if this is true. It was never explained but was quite offputting. - The decor was quite dated and the room quite dark (once I had pulled the curtain over the window overlooking the common hallway) - Conversely, at night I couldn’t make the room properly dark because the bathroom door had a window that let in light from the bathroom skylight
