卡拉洛奇酒店(Cara Lodge Hotel)

I am a frequent traveler and I have visited many countries and hotels. This by far was the worst. I understand that the hotel is an historic building but having to carry 4 suitcases up 6 flights of stairs was not a good experience. The room was ver old and looked like it was not upgraded since the hotel was built, the flooring was cracked in several spots sinking in as you walked on them, there were exposed nails and we are traveling with our little one so that was a concern. The list goes on and to top it off there was no warm or hot running water. My little requires warm water for a skin condition. Imagine having to shower him at 3am in cold water. Needless to say we Contacted the front dress to ask if we can switch rooms and they told us non was available. We tried calling back several times and the front desk would not take our calls. We left the next morning checked into another hotel and forfeited our money we spent to book Cara for 3 nights

We were happy to have this recommended for the start and end of our tour to Guyana as we enjoy staying in historical buildings rather than large chain hotels. We stayed a total of five nights. We stayed in different rooms, all clean and compact. Rooms have air conditioning and overhead fans. Wifi worked well. Hand towels were available and then not available. There is a problem though with hot water. None for our initial two nights and just about for our last three nights ( we were promised this would be looked into and after a further change of room after our return, we had hot water). Others in our party did not have hot water either. Possibly we were told, due to a problem with the solar system, although it is not clear if some parts of the hotel are actually connected. One way or another, this is an international city hotel charging international prices and this needs to be resolved and information properly communicated so that informed choices can be made. Overall the decor was tired. There is a large breakfast menu but service was slow and given the wonderful produce in the local markets, the standard of fresh fruit was disappointing. It seems tourism will take off with the oil industry and direct flights from the UK. Cara Lodge is a beautiful building and can provide an excellent offering to compete with modern hotels. Times are tough but on the other hand we had an excellent experience in the interior of Guyana, so hope this city hotel will improve to compete.

A charming old hotel in Georgetown..with walking lanes around, but a bit of a hike from the sea face and town. The rooms were well appointed, and comfortable. But since it was a period building..sans lifts - getting to & from the second floor with baggage was hard. The central atrium, with the bar ( which dished up an amazing pina colada ) was a lovely place to catch up with fellow travellers. The breakfast was great & in-house restaurant was lovely - food, ambiance, et al. Thought a bit pricy. A lovely hotel..would stay there again anytime

This hotel was badly let down by poor service. I suggest you allow at least an hour for breakfast, even if you're ordering the simplest things, as the service there in particular was painfully slow, even when not especially busy. Service was better at other meals, though still with room for improvement in terms of efficiency and friendliness. The quality of the food was generally good, though the Pepperpot was a big disappointment, as there was as much fat, gristle and bones as meat. In the dark sauce, these were difficult to tell apart until you bit into them - not a pleasant experience. The rooms were good, although on one occasion my wife was deluged with brown water when taking a shower, messing up her hair for days. When we mentioned this to reception, we were told that there had been a plumbing problem which was now sorted, and if we let the taps run for a bit it would be OK (It wasn't actually clear until the next day). Much netter if we'd been told in advance that there was a problem. You may also need to double-pump the toilet in order to get it to flush. On one occasion, I met the room cleaner. She was really friendly and did her job perfectly well. If the other staff could have matched her, this would easily have been a five star review.

I was in Guyana for a short stay and needed to be nearby. It was a plesant experience. Staff was cordial and helpful. They hotel has done a very good job of modernizing the space and still maintained its quaint historic features.

The property was very picturesque. The lawns were well manicured and the building is well preserved with updated features like internet access and modernized bathrooms. The mattresses are super-comfortable and afford guests great sleep. The seating areas surrounding by beautiful foliage were very relaxing. Because the furniture was susceptible to dust, great care should be taken to maintain them. Because of the foliage, is there something that can be done about the mosquitoes? Furthermore, while it may not be safe for each room to have a microwave, I suggest that some common area should be set aside with disposable dishes and flatware for guests to warm up food.

Room was great, good air conditioning, ceiling fan, mattress was soo comfortable. Service was top notch. It was a dhame that the food was low quality. We ate their 5 times 2 breakfast and 3 lunch/dinner. Brrakfast was 4/10 I didn't like the fake suasage and the toast with no butter, reaally wasn't worth the price we paid. Lunch/dinner, the beef burger was mush and couldn't finish it and the chips was standard frozen chips deep fried. The quality for the price we paid was defo not worth it. Would recommend eating out.

I called for directions and no one answered. Finally found the place and entrance is closed so we entered via the exit. Then walked in and found a half eaten plate of food on the front desk but no concierge. A "security guard" then approached and checked us in... On top of all that i believe i was double charged so that's another stress. I have and will continue to share my experiences of this establishment.

Food excellent, service awesome, employees are super supportive and very friendly
