The Blue Door

We stayed only one night, as part of a longer road trip. The accommodation is top class, with large, comfortable rooms and spacious bathrooms. Provision was made for load-shedding, the ruling party's gift to South Africa, in the form of a gas stove to allow for coffee- and tea-making, and a solar-charged lamp in the rooms. Our host explained everything clearly to us and we had no problem leaving and entering during our stay, and the property is close to the centre of town. Highly recommended. Greyton is a pretty little village, typical of a trend in South Africa, undergoing an uneven process of gentrification with an expanding offering of art galleries, coffee bars, wine shops and antique dealers; trez trendy, a pastiche, like Clarens, Franschhoek or Nottingham Road. Accepting it for what it is, it's a nice enough place for a weekend getaway, and we happened by luck to arrive on the weekend of the annual Fire and Wine festival, and so could spend Friday evening mingling, sipping wine happily, among the beards, *****ed culottes and small-breed dogs from Cape Town. Most weekends, it's probably quieter and a little more authentic. Definitely worth a visit, and the Blue Doors a good choice for accommodation
