Marnie Steffny - you are one of life’s angels and Safari Moon is indeed heaven on earth! It is easy to sometimes get caught up in the holiday spirit and eulogise over this, that and the other. However, when staying at Safari Moon, everything about this gorgeous lodge is just as it should be.. but sprinkled with additional stardust! This private and intimate space is nestled within the Hoedspruit Nature Reserve, meaning on your doorstep, around the pool and the entire accommodations, your are frequently visited by some of Africa’s beautiful beasts, Kudu, Warthogs, Bush Babies and any number of colourful birds and insects. The main reception space in the lodge, which often feels exclusively your own, is adorned in exquisite artefacts, ceramics and paintings, and is spread over two seating areas, an open kitchen and a dining area and bar which’s spills on to the poolside deck. A large Chesterfield sits invitingly in front of the open fire and makes for excellent sundowners for the cooler evenings; the Amarula tasting even better! The pool area adjoins open bush and you are therefore afforded a true sense of serenity. And you are of course regularly stocked with drinks of your choice! The bedrooms are truly sumptuous, with vast and outrageously comfortable four poster beds and stunning bathrooms with the added luxury of outdoor showers. Food for our family can often be challenging as both gluten-free and vegan diets dictate, but never have we enjoyed such tailored menu’s to this end and to such a high level of quality. Bravo to Solly, Sizwe, Nikiwe and Connie who all excelled and whose smiles simply added to the entire ambience of this wonderful haven. The lodge is situated only 45 minutes from the magnificent Kruger Game Reserve and our guide, Sandy Beaton (from My Africa) ensured we had a ‘dawn til dusk’ day to remember. Next time Sandy, we will be staying in the bush with you and will be walking! Last but by no means least, it is clear that Safari Moon would simply not be what it is without the compassionate stewardship of Marnie Steffny. Marnie’s years of experience in looking after guests African expectations have no comparison and all that is enjoyed is largely down to Marnie’s meticulous planning, warmth and genuine interest in humanity, nature and environment. We all miss you terribly Marnie 🤗 Safari Moon is an exclusive and intimate space, with only 7 guest rooms and so there is a sense of exclusivity and mixing with other guests feels effortless and genuine. Clearly the ambience lends itself to this very kind of experience and if you are looking for a base to explore, relax and luxuriate, you will be hard pressed to find its equal.
