基諾奇野生退休之地(Kinloch Wilderness Retreat)

Overpriced for poor accomodation. This is the 10th accomodation during our New Zealand trip we've visited and it is by far the worste. We've had the lakeside room with ensuite bathroom. Due to the lack of isolation and single glazing, the windows were very wet on the inside every morning. Health wise certainly not ideal. The bedlinen was too small to keep me warm at night and there was no closet or shelves to lay our clothes. I didn't measure the bed but it was certainly too small for me (1m89). Luckily the restaurant has a very good chef, but the prices were again too high in my opinion in comparison to other places we've visited (40NZD for a glas of wine, an alcohol free gin drink and a coffee).

Disappointing as not really a wilderness. There on weekend but concrete mixer going constantly, room size minimal, no room for suitcases. On web site the rooms looked much bigger. Some aspects not in their control such as Busy road as people went to Greenstone track, Dart river jet boats and helicopters but this should stop them advertising as a “Wilderness retreat” as some of us expected peace and quiet and bird song.

I was really disappointed to be honest. You can forgive a lot of a place is clean and the room and shared facilities were a bit grubby. Found previous occupants tissues behind the bed and there are splatted insects dotted around the bathroom. The location is great, but we wouldn't stay here again. It feels like backpackers accommodation at 4 star Hotel prices.

A great little gem hidden away off the beaten track but well worth it. Family run business and very friendly and accommodating host. Can’t rave and rate it any more then say it’s a must stay. I stayed in winter but definitely will return for another stay in the warmer weather to explore the area more.

Several years before, I visited Kinloch in a campervan, but when I decided to revisit the area, I also chose to travel by “normal” car and thus needed “normal” accommodation, which resulted in me choosing Kinloch Wilderness Retreat, and more specifically an EcoScapes bungalow. But there isn’t really a lot of “normal” things about the EcoScapes bungalow. They’re built very ecologically conscious, yet come with all the modern amenities one could wish for (heater, a/c, WiFi, mini fridge, tea/coffee station). The extremely comfortable bed looks out onto the head of Lake Wakatipu, but just in case you get tired of the view, you can lower the window blind and switch on the projector to watch any of your favourite subscription services via Google Chromecast or AppleTV. The restaurant of the main lodge is probably around 50 meters walk away, and the chef prepares fantastic meals with local and Kiwi fare. And if, after a long day of hiking and exploring the surrounds, you feel like you could use a little relaxation help, as a resident of one of the EcoScapes bungalows, you can use the open air hot tub that also looks out over Lake Wakatipu and the Humboldt Mountains beyond. (You might have to share the hot tub with the other EcoScapes guests, but that’s just your party plus maximum two other guests of the other bungalow.) If the hot tub is not the right thing for you, you can still enjoy sitting down on your private little deck enjoying lake and mountain views.

Gorgeous Ecoscape with all the amenities you need for your very own luxury escape. We had a fabulous mini getaway for our anniversary and can't recommend it enough. Food was yum and they catered to our dietary needs. Thanks so much.

We could not have had a more wonderful stay. The ecoscape hut was warm, super comfy and quiet. The staff we so friendly, accommodating and relaxed. The vegan food was very yummy and breakfast in bed was such a treat. The whole place felt loved, thoughtful and sensible. Highly recommend.

Important note: Starting late 2023 you will be unable to book a room in the Heritage Lodge unless you book the entire Lodge for NZ$900 per night. This is a big disappoin**ent for my 2024 vacation plans. The Heritage Lodge rooms are elegant. The shared baths are modern and better than what you have at home. Mattress is superb. The lounge in the Heritage Lodge is stately. Don't confuse the Lodge with the backpacker accommodations next door. Those are basic, but with the cleanest common areas we saw anywhere in NZ. The Lodge is where you want to stay for a luxury experience. This place is worth the 10-minute drive down an unpaved road. Note the strict refund policy, which minimizes staff time and helps the Lodge keep its rates very low for the quality you receive. The price is outstanding for what you get.

Exactly what we were after. Amazing setting. Accommodation awesome. EcoScapes. John and Portia brilliant. Food was excellent. We would definitely recommend for an escape from busy life. Beautiful walks close by.
