My first visit to Lincoln and this is tricky...all staff from reception to bar/restaurant and room cleaners were brilliant...welcoming, friendly, helpful and a joy. Rooms were very clean and cosy being kept very warm during what was a very cold spell...a little too hot for some ! And plenty of hot water for good shower/bath. Location was exceptional being opposite cathedral and close to a plethora of super independent shops and some restaurants which didn't have time to sample. Breakfast room and restaurant both have a great view of the cathedral through panoramic windows and you'll even be able to watch the Red Arrows practice whilst eating breakfast if you're lucky like us. So here's the rub...food...breakfast provides a great selection but the hot buffet was not as hot as it should be on both mornings (admittedly we attended near 0900) toward end of sitting but better warming facilities are needed...and you can order something freshly cooked if you wish, so bear in mind if happy to wait...I'm sure it will be good.
Likewise evening meal, menu good. food presentation good but lacks taste/flavour..as if preprepared and warmed. Send chef to Castle Hotel where sampled excellent braised beef second night ! Also lift a bit dodgy but works. Lastly Car parking was excellent..very easy with good size spaces..a real plus. Thank you for lovely stay. I will likely return to check if comments taken on board as if food improved I would give 5 stars for excellent hotel and value.
