Fabulous! One word that can describe our stay at the Ivens. It scored full marks on hospitality , hotlel decor & room quality . We reached early morning around 9 am after a long 9 hours flight . Being a Bonvoy Ambassador member they had already upgraded us to the suite , but the suite would be ready only by 3pm the official check in time . The check in staff was so helpful they promptly gave us another room till our suite was ready . This is indeed was a boon as we could rest after such a long journey and adjust to the time zone. The 3 night stay was just wonderful , no request was small and the team ensured that we had a memorable holiday. The hotel has the beautiful Rocco restaurant as part of its establishment and breakfast was served in this beautiful setting. The rooms are modern and well equipped. I wanted an adapter plug that was promptly provided. The amenities were just world class. The location is perfect away from the noise and just a few minutes walk to the city centreThis is easily one of the best hotels I have stayed in Europe . You will not find a better place in Lisbon for sure.

We are so glad we chose to stay here - everything was wonderful and we felt well taken care of. The hotel is beautiful and centrally located - we were able to walk to many attractions and the neighborhood was fun to explore. The staff's attention to detail and pride in the hotel was evident - from reception, to the restaurant to housekeeping - everyone was friendly and professional. We felt taken care of and welcomed by everyone we encountered. Just after booking, we read some negative reviews about the Bica rooms that made us nervous enough to wonder if we should upgrade. After seeing our room in person (Bica 7), we felt much better, and by the end of our stay, we knew we would be happy to stay in that room again. The Bica rooms are not 'in the basement' as some other reviews have stated. While they are on floors below main reception, keep in mind that the hotel is on a steep hill and these rooms look out over the downward slope. Our floor to ceiling windows were still above street level, and we were afforded a beautiful view of the pedestrianized old town streets below. Yes, there are some buildings across the streets with windows that face the hotel, but we never felt a lack of privacy - for one, the room had sun shade blinds on all windows that diffused the bright Portuguese sunlight, but they also provided privacy from anyone who might happen to look into our room from the windows across the street (they didn't). It is something anyone who has lived in a city would be familiar and comfortable with. We heard street noise only when the garbage was being collected, and the windows provided enough soundproofing to ensure that noise was very light and brief. Our room was very spacious, and even with the sun shades down, there was plenty of natural light and it felt airy and gracious. The AC kept the room comfortable, and we were happy to spend the hottest hours of each day relaxing in the room. The bed was huge (and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in). The bathroom is small, but beautifully designed. The shower water pressure was glorious and we appreciated the Aesop toiletries. The hotel was currently doing renovations on our floor, but you would never know it. There were a few discreet renovation notices on doors and we saw some workmen during the day, but the sound was well insulated behind multiple doors and we were never disturbed. The privacy was actually remarkable - even though the hotel was fully booked during our stay, it was never noisy and we never felt crowded. We saw other guests occasionally, but it never felt like we were competing for space in the common areas or for the staff's attention. We enjoyed lunch and cocktails at the rooftop bar every day (I do not drink and appreciated the no-alcohol cocktail options), and our visit to Suba on the last night was nothing short of exceptional. Great room; we stayed on 18th floor that had a winding staircase with an outside patio. The patio was very large and had a fantastic view; it was wonderful. The beds were comfy and we were able to get an extra single bed brought in as there were 4 of us. The bathrooms were great with the rainshower head and sprayer, large soft bath towels and robes. The only thing that was disappointing is that the window on the main floor only went 1/2 way up the wall and there was no window on the 2nd floor bedroom; however you had the door that opened up to the patio on the 2nd floor. It was a fantastic room. The staff was great and quick to respond to any requests we had. Great place to stay. It is close to a park; restaurants, but seems to be more in the business district; however we walked all other to stores etc. Lisbon is very up/down so you are always walking up or down and on uneven ground/bricks. Fantastic place; just wear comfy/walking shoes and be ready to have some steep uphills and downhills.

The actual guesthouse itself is not the problem, as it is nice. The core issue is the disorganization and chaos that ensured once I arrived that lasted literally the entire time. I specifically stated the time I was coming, what I needed (wifi to work) and once I arrived, there was NO ONE to answer the front door, so I was forced to wait outside for nearly half an hour alternating between calling the contact number that was never answered and ringing the front door, which was also never answered. Eventually, someone that lives in the building came out, and I walked in. When I reached the front door of the guesthouse, I found the door wide open, yet NO ONE was inside. Unsure of what to do, I placed my bags in the living room and area and waited. And waited. And waited. A few hours later, I still had NO wifi, no one was answering my phone calls, and there was still no one inside the facility. Finally, I contacted *********** and the owner/manager answered me, apologizing for everything. But I still did not have the wifi and since by the time I ensured that I could leave and return with the door key, everything nearby to buy food was closed. Then, other guests arrived after me and had even worse fates. One had stopped by in the early afternoon, and when no one answered, he left and came back late in the evening. He had flown all the way from SOUTH KOREA and had to walk around with his bags until late in the evening. Then, another guest, from France arrived, and just as I experienced, the room arrangements were incorrect, so we improvised between us. Now, I was offered a full refund, which they basically had no choice but to give me considering how inept they were in checking me in and leaving me outside on a very busy and darkly lit street that resembled an alley. Later, I found out fro other guests that had been here for a few days that it was just more of the same, proving my case that the place is just terribly run. Now, beause I could not leave a review on *********** because that's where I booked it and cancelled, I made it a point to leave one here so that people coming here in the future know to avoid this place. The staff I encountered was fine, and it was not their fault. It starts from the top and if the management doesn't have the proficiency to take care of the basic needs of their guests, then they really should NOT be in business.

In one word ... Incredible! Starting with the communication before our stay, asking about our preferences, dietary restrictions, and wish list for our visit. Upon arrival, a warm greeting with a personal handwritten itinerary and walk thru of the apartment, to include stocking the fridge with plant based milks and yogurts for my husband. Throughout our stay the entire staff was so incredibly helpful it made you feel as if you were the only guests they had. And finally, on our last day, sending us off with another handwritten thank you and a personalized tile to remind us of our time in Lisboa. I highly recommend taking advantage of the knowledgable staff and concierge services to assist with planning your experience. Our private tours to Sintra and Fatima, arranged through I Go Portugal were incredible and the owners, Sonya and Pedro, were a wealth of knowledge and a joy to spend the day with. Also recommend private transfer services - to/from the airport, which can be arranged through the Almaria's concierge. The Almaria was like a home away from home, with all the comforts you look for but with the added benefit of a staff that makes the whole experience ”out of this world!” Obrigada!!!!
