Extremely Unpleasant Experience - Caution for Travelers Considering Gantry Hotel
I recently had an unsatisfactory stay at the Gantry Hotel, and I feel compelled to share my experience for the benefit of potential guests. One of the major drawbacks was the hotel's policy on overnight luggage storage, which left me immensely disappointed.
The hotel's insistence on not allowing guests to leave their luggage overnight is a significant inconvenience. Despite their explanations citing safety concerns, a shortage of staff, or lack of space, it became evident that these were merely excuses. In reality, the hotel is spacious, and other establishments in the area, including the Stratford Hotel and even the Premier Inn, manage to provide this basic service without compromising security.
What added to my frustration was the inconsistent responses I received from the Gantry Hotel staff. The reasons for not allowing overnight luggage storage ranged from vague safety concerns to admissions of not having enough staff or space. This lack of transparency only raises more questions about the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction.
As a traveler, I find it essential to share that other nearby hotels, such as the Stratford Hotel and the Premier Inn, were willing to offer luggage storage, highlighting a stark contrast to the Gantry Hotel's policy. My personal experience involved having booked two stays with the Gantry, from 14th-18th Feb and 19th-23rd. I was only one day away in Cambridge, and it only came to my attention on the night of the 17th that I would not be allowed to leave my luggage overnight. I just hoped that they could help me store my luggage on the day I went to Cambridge, from the 18th to the 19th. I returned to London on the 19th to retrieve my luggage and continued staying at their hotel. It's truly unbelievably frustrating. If I had not asked, I wouldn't have known what to do the next morning when I had to catch my train to Cambridge.
This situation not only inconvenienced me but also put me in an embarrassing position, dragging my luggage through cold, miserable rain to the Stratford Hotel to seek help. Fortunately they were willing to offer me help even if I did not stay there, and I so much regretted that I had not choose them in the first place. I sincerely hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for potential customers. While the Gantry Hotel may offer other amenities, the inconvenience caused by their luggage policy and the contrast with neighboring hotels raise concerns about their commitment to guest satisfaction and convenience. Consider these factors carefully before choosing Gantry Hotel for your stay.
