We used this a bit of a base which enabled luggage to be left to accommodate internal flight weight limits. The hotel is in the Karen district of Nairobi and has reasonably quick access to and from both Jomo Kenyetta and Wilson Airports, 40 mins max normally. It follows that access by road to places like Mombasa, the Tsavo National Park, Amboseli, Masai Mara, and probably Nakuru and Naivasha should be initially straight forward to get out of Nairobi. Places in the North such as the Aberdare’s and Samburu will take a lot longer due to clear Nairobi due to traffic. Most of the suites are in 6 blocks running downhill on the right-hand side of the hotel. If you have mobility issues there are ground floor rooms and staff can provide lifts back up to the hotel in electric trollies. We stayed 4 nights, one night, then safari, one night, and another safari, and 2 nights, all in three different suites. However the suite layout was the same. Large bed with what you would expect in such a hotel room. Two sliding doors enable access to the balcony with furniture to sit or lay down on. Views vary a bit depending on which room but all overlook the garden and a couple of ponds. The bathroom is behind the main room with shower (one morning there was no hot water), bath, toilet and basins at either end. A walk in wardrobe with a safe. The wardrobe has an automatic light so at night if you don’t want to have the light come on, close the doors. However, a light to guide you to the toilet may be helpful to some. Meals are served in an indoor room on the left as you walk in or in two outside areas either side of the hotel. At lunchtimes meals can also be taken using outside seating in front of the water feature and fountains. Breakfast is part buffet and part ordered from the table. Other meals are ordered from the table. Evening meal booking is not always needed but if you want a table outside then may be best to book. There is a bar, upstairs, but its opening hours varied. Out of the 4 days we spent it was only open at lunch times on 2 days. The other 2 days it opened at 14.00 and 16.00. This may be due to occupancy levels in the hotel. It was open every evening with shades to protect from the sun which are lifted as the sun starts to set over the Ngong Hills. The hotel does have day visitors inc businesses meetings as well as people in for lunch. All the staff we met were friendly and accommodating. Not for everyone’s budget but a nice hotel to relax in.
