The hotel is very cool with respect to decor and dining options, and the bedding and robes are absolutely lovely. It’s the level of service that is not up to par with other hotels of comparable price. For a $1,200 per night room, there should always be a doorman or bellman outside. Guests shouldn’t have to drag their bags into the lobby by themselves from the car. Throughout our stay, the front door was unattended most of the time. Now, of course I know how to open a door all by myself, but for these prices there should be more than one person available to do this and greet guests.

We returned to The Fifth Avenue Hotel again this year for our wedding anniversary. The experience was just as wonderful as it was last year. Every room is a work of art, and the beauty of the hotel is beyond compare. The Portrait Bar is absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant is a delight. Our room was perfect, and the staff were more than skilled and helpful, they were charming and welcoming. The hotel has the best staff we have ever encountered in all of our travels. When we are at the Fifth Avenue Hotel, we know we are where we are supposed to be. We would not consider coming to New York and staying anywhere else. We urge you to stay here. If you do, you will want to return, as we have and as we will continue to do.

Incredible. The atmosphere, the staff, the food, the accommodations, all a 10 out of 10. Must stay here and will return! We went with 2 other couples and went to Portrait bar three times during our stay for the food and atmosphere. Staff incredible, all amenities, superb.

This was our first time staying at the hotel, and we were very happy with the entire experience. The hotel and restaurant have only been open less than a year, but the original building has a rich history as a gilded age family home, and it shows. The design and decor are stunning and unique, this place is not cold and lifeless. Our room was small-ish, but certainly larger rooms are available, and it certainly made up for it in comfort. Personally, I've never been bothered by a small room anyway, because when I travel, the room is not where I spend the majority of my time. The service: every interaction we had with the staff here was at a level of service that you would expect from a more expensive stay. From the moment we arrived, a butler showed us to our room, and that level of service continued throughout our stay; always professional, always warm and genuine. The food: we ate at Café Carmellini the night of our arrival, and the food and service were both exceptional. The dining room is a charming art deco masterpiece, where most tables are banquettes, which is great for a romantic couples dinner. Breakfast at the Cafe every morning was also outstanding, and we looked forward to it every day. We had drinks at the Portrait Bar a few nights before dinner, and once again service was exceptional, and the cocktails were inspired. They may tell you at check in that it's highly recommended to try the burger at the Portrait Bar, so I tried it, and let me just say it's as good as they say, if not better. It's good enough to make you weep tears of joy. If you live in New York, go there now and try it. If not, get on a plane, then go try it. We absolutely loved our stay here and can't wait to return. The location is great, the property is gorgeous, the rooms are comfortable, the food is outstanding, but the most memorable part has to have been the service. These are people that love the work of providing service at a high level, and it shows. Special mention should go to Kevin, Ignacio, Rebecca and Michael at the restaurant, Ed at the Portrait Bar, but really everyone we met were fantastic, and by the time we left, it felt like we were leaving old friends. We can't wait to see them again.
