We stayed at the Donard for 1 night as we were attending a gig in the Town & it was in a good location for us. The staff were very welcoming & did explain that the hotel is currently getting a renovation so the Restaurant would not be available for breakfast. They did give us a 10% discount card for the Shimna Cafe across the street. The rooms are a good size with comfy bed & pillows & a nice sized bathroom with the complimentary toiletries.

We stayed in The Donard in August and to say it was like Faulty towers is an understatement. The room we stayed in had a DIY job done on a plug, wires hanging from the ceiling. There was a screw missing from the ladder that my children used to get to a top bunk. There was broken tile in the bathroom and a shower door ready to fall of. I did ring the hotel to complain and I was told I would get a full refund. Its now November and I have made numerous calls to the hotel and no sign of my money back. I am very disappointed with the customer service.

The staff here are amazing - nothing is too much trouble. Great pub grub and atmosphere in The Donard Bar. Visited on a weekend with sports on during the day and live music in the evening. Definitely worth visiting for anyone stopping in town. Highly recommend.

The Donard hotel has great staff who provided warm hospitality. The location is really centered and the price is reasonable. Newcastle is a town that is worth visiting due to the relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely recommend staying at Donard Hotel if you want to have a getaway.

Stayed in a comfortable room that was spacious and had a large bed. Room had Wifi and there was a desk and lamp, so I could work there with no problems. There was no dinner served in restaurant but their bar did pub grub.

Stayed here for one night while I was attending a conference in a nearby hotel. Staff were helpful and room was spacious. Nothing was too much trouble and they even allowed me to email and print my itinerary items on their reception computer

We stayed here after another hotel let us down – and we are glad we came here!. Although this hotel has no parking, there are many car parks and areas nearby to park. The receptionist quickly checked us in and gave us a tour of the hotel and brought us to our room (Room 201) . She was very polite and funny. The room was called the tower room and is at the very front of the hotel. It is spacious and has a view of the main street, the mourne mountains, and a part of the sea. We were lucky that we were given this room as it is probably the best room in the hotel (based on the views). The restaurant was closed as the hotel only focused on serving breakfasts to guests which was fine for us because there are at least thirty cafés and restaurants within five minutes walking distance. The hotel has a bar attached to it. (The Donard Bar) and my partner got to watch his football game there and we had a few drinks. There was also live music played in the evening because it was the weekend. Overall, it was a hidden gem and it surpassed our expectations. We are so glad we didn’t stay in our previous hotel for the two nights and decided to spend our second night at the Donard. It defo saved our trip! We will be back.

Spent a few days in December here to visit my family during Christmas. The hotel was great - a little cold at the start, but Tasha got us an extra heater for the room. Breakfast was included in our rate and although we had to check out early, they prepared a packed lunch for us instead. There was wifi, tv and tea making facilities in the room. The room was clean and the bathroom had a nice bathtub and shower in it. It was good value for money, especially compared to other hotels and AirBnB rentals in the area.
