勞拉瀑布酒店(Falls of Lora Hotel)

Went for a family meal, seated quickly and offered menus. Place moderately busy. Starters were vile. Haggis neeps and tatties served cold and lumpy with no taste. Prawn ciabatta resembled vomit and was inedible. No one asked if food was ok and when clearing plates I stated the food was not nice and no one answered or queried what wrong. The servers were children and did not care whether the food was being enjoyed or not. Mains, stroganoff so dry I could have started a fire using the rice as kindling. Steaks were disappointing, medium was over and tasted burnt more than charr grilled. The lack of care and attention was unforgivable and we will not be back. When paying a couple of hundred pounds for a family meal and leaving feeling cheated and slightly nauseated, is a very poor end to what should have been a lovely outing.

Had a great experience at this hotel, the main building is older style with antiquey furniture and a nice atmosphere - the breakfast room has beautiful big windows with a view. My room was in the modern extension and really fresh and comfy. Breakfast and dinner were great and there are lovely gardens to enjoy just across the road. I think of myself as way to fussy and I was perfectly happy here so would definitley recommend

This review is for the restaurant only. We ate here twice over the 1st May bank holiday because we enjoyed our 1st meal so much. The fish pie was different from expected, in that it was not topped with mash but with pastry. In fact there was a pastry base too. 2 of us had the fish pie twice and noticed that the 1st time there was more salmon than white fish and the 2nd time it was the other way round. Both times very delicious. The trout was excellent too. The apple crumble was faultless and enjoyed by 2 of us. The cheesecake looked great but did lack in taste. Supposed to be lemon but no real lemon flavour. Did mention this so the chef can put more lemon in the next batch so if it too strong you can blame me. Great service, great food and 2 nights thoroughly enjoyed.

This was a perfect overnight stay for us with a three year old. Family room was large, safe and comfortable. Location is perfect if you are going to board a ferry from Oban the next morning. The lady at reception was kind, nice, funny and informative. Dinner food was good and service was charming. Pity there was no real ale or any kind of ale on offer. Nice garden belonging to the hotel across the road. Breakfast was superb, with pretty much everything one could ask for. And the hotel has an electric car charger (three plugs) in the car park. Would definitely go back!

After an extremely comfortable and welcoming stay which I enjoyed in June 2022, my expectations were high for a repeat experience. Sadly this was not to be. Nearly every aspect was significantly poorer than last year 1. Check-in My ferry docked from the Isle of Mull with insufficient time to arrive before the kitchen closed. So at the time of booking I phoned ahead and was assured that a meal could be available if I called ahead. I duly called from the ferry, only to be told this was not the case. So I was misled by reception and also I feel that since Oban is the gateway to the Hebrides, a hotel of Falls of Lora's standing should accommodate travellers arriving on evening ferries. Going the other way, the proprietors at Salen Hotel were more than happy to prepare a meal for me and keep it warm for my arrival on the Isle of Mull. 2. Bedroom Last year I had a room in the old part of the hotel which was comfortable and stylish albeit with a shared bathroom, which I don't mind. Two weeks ago I was given a room in the modern annex which was cramped and claustrophobic. The mattress was one of the softest I have ever slept on and gave no back support at all. There was poor sound proofing and I could hear people moving around in the room above. 3. Breakfast The buffet breakfast was much inferior to last year. The fruit was nothing more than tinned fruit salad, tinned orange and grapefruit segments. I asked for porridge and was surprised how quickly it arrived. I soon discovered that this was because the kitchen has stooped to the depths of providing instant porridge pots instead of making proper porridge. This is a disgrace. I asked for my scrambled eggs to be soft and buttery but was warned that they would come out of a large pan so I asked for a soft poached egg instead; when it arrived it was hard and leathery. 4. Check-out At check-out the staff, who were paid employees, unlike the very personable member of the family who helped me last year, barely looked at me and carried on with their private conversation. This is just plain rude. 5. Price Last year I paid £54.40 for my stay. This year the management have decided to exaggerate increased costs and I wa charged £93. This is an increase of 71%. 6. Conclusion At the start of this review I awarded 2*. I've now downgraded this to 1*. I think anyone reading this can see why. Please, fellow travellers, read recent reviews carefully when considering if you are prepared to be as disappointed as I was.

We hadden een basic kamer. Heel klein bed, ik ben er bijna uitgevallen. De badkamer was ruim en voldoende plaats om je toiletspullen op te bergen. De handdoeken waren beetje gelig verkleurd. Zeker niet wit. Wel proper. Ontbijt is oké, vriendelijk, behulpzaam personeel . Je kamer wordt ook terug in orde gebracht als je weg bent.

Average sized room with comfy bed and clean bathroom. Excellent food with huge portions, I had the smoked haddock which came with a cheese based sauce which was tasty but not so much as to overwhelm the taste of the fish
