I want to preface this by saying that my wife and I are both professionals in a vacation property management company, so we usually try to be good renters and be fair with other people in the business, that said:
If it seems too good to be true, it usually is- that was the case here. After booking through **********, we were only notified after by the property manager/partner Vince that there would be an additional cleaning fee that cost almost as much as the booking itself. We were also then told that the booking was *non-refundable*, non-extendable, and that we'd have to go to some sketchy third-party site to pay the cleaning fee, pay an *additional* security deposit, and jump through a number of hoops including a "real-time selfie". Vince, the contact we had, could not/would not answer any basic questions about the process, and was very rude and dismissive. Apparently he lives out of state- this becomes important later.
The day of check-in, we received conflicting information about access, and had to message Vince to find out how we would park our vehicle because there was no local staff/a host to assist. After a wait, we were directed to an alleyway where homeless were fighting over garbage and someone had already parked in our spot. After some "negotiation", we got in. An older low-income apt complex converted to a rental, it was clear no one inspected the unit prior to check-in. While nothing was overtly terrible, you could tell they work to turn these around quickly.
