Nice hotel, comfortable bed, right in the middle of Richmond with the Asian food scene. Booked a Junior suite with nice décor but dark bedroom with only 1 lamp in the bedroom side. Lots of electrical and USB outlets. Breakfasts (for the 3 nights we stayed) were always a hectic with short staffed, long wait, and slow buffet food replenishments (only 3 kinds of hot food, fruits, juice, cereals, yogurt, oatmeal, and bread/muffins. Uncleared Diamond Hilton Honors member benefits which I have reported to the management on feedback form. The written form clearly started one way but all hotel staffs interpreted it otherwise, and the staff thought I was trying to take advantage of the situation when I tried to clarified. The management should rephrase the appetizer and drink benefit if all the staffs interpreted it differently as it was written.

Thank you for the opportunity to describe my Inn at the Quay experience. I was booked for a day procedure at Royal Columbian Hospital at 6:00AM on Saturday May 20. Because I was travelling from out of town and had to be driven home (as a requirement of the procedure) I elected to travel by train to Vancouver and then New Westminster on the day before, Friday. On Tuesday May 16 I booked a room at your hotel for the night of the night of Friday May 19 for $389.00 ex-taxes. My plan was to take a cab to the Hospital and then my daughter was then going to drive to town to pick me up and drive me home after the procedure on Saturday. After travelling to New Westminster I had time to kill because I called the Inn at the Quay to see if I could get an early check in but was told that you were very busy and that was not possible. The hospital recommends attending with only your care card for security reasons. For this reason I had my BC Care Card and the credit card I used to book the room in my cellular phone case. During my wanders I lost my phone. Fortunately I had a significant amount of cash so I got a cab immediately and attended at your hotel. I explained my situation to the clerk on the desk and she said that she could not check me in without the credit card I used to book the room. I asked her if you would charge that card with the room price if I had not shown up and she agreed that that was the case. When I asked if she could just charge the card and let me stay she said that the situation was different and was against your policy. I questioned her further and she summoned a person form the back office who agreed that the situation was completely different and actually said “Sorry, we can’t help you.” When I suggested cancelling the credit card transaction and paying in cash that suggestion was also turned down. Reason was lost on these two minions that are trained to be slavishly obedient to your rules and policies. I am sure that if you question these two they will agree that I was polite and courteous throughout our encounter. After several attempts at circumventing their indifference I felt that I should leave before I started to get mad. As a competent, attentive and businesslike hotelier I am sure you are aware of the saturation in your market on any given day. If you harken back to May 19 you will recall that all of the other hotels in New Westminster and as far as Port Coquitlam were completely booked. No matter, I was able to avail myself of a comfortable chair in the admitting lobby of the Royal Columbian Hospital from 4:00PM on Friday until 6:00AM the following morning. Except of course when I had to leave the admitting lobby while the janitors polished the floors. Because the Emergency Room lobby was full I was able to meet some of the interesting local street residents that were outside at 2:30AM. I am Silver Elite of Bonvoy Group for years and surprised that Marriot Richmond Vancouver is so bad like an inn old and not furnished like a 3 stars hotel I booked a junior suite for my stay for 3 people and upgraded to Executive suite using my upgrade stars earned for the year which supposed to be a corner suite with bigger area and best of the Hotel offer Suprisingly the room is old - like a roadside inn - paint falls off cabinet with hangers and only one robe no slippers (even I call front dest to ask for) no bath tub the sofa bed is very old style with some parts stuck out that will bump your leg easily if you don't pay attention A simple coffee machine no kettle to make hotwater a balcony that you have to open a steele door to walk out basically not good looking and no use ... Lounge has no nice food but only coffee pops and chips Breakfast is up to Marriot standard but service overall is not good due to insufficient attendants and staffs when you get to the restaurant normally wait for 5-10 mins with no one to look after you or bring you to a table .... I think it has a convenienct location near airport so it sells good and expensive Sharing carpark area with another hotel is also lowered the class of the hotel .... I will not recommend this hotel to friends and will probably choose seaside hotel next time if I visit vancouver .... your pay for this old hotel is not worth the $$$ you paid
