索內酒店(Hotel Sonne - Das Kleine Altstadt Hotel)

-prima locatie direct in centrum -mooi restaurant -persoonlijke aandacht en service -uitstekend ontbijt -goed bed en goede douche -Parkeren aan rand van stad. Lastig om bij hotel met auto te komen -geen lift aanwezig -kamers zouden gemoderniseerd mogen worden

Just a block off the main town a square. Had bratwurst and graupenrisotto. Both were great. Service was great as well. Have outside and inside areas. It was rainy so host suggested inside. Also a hotel. Prices are reasonable and decor is nice. They did not have a menu posted but could pull up on your phone and did provide Wi-Fi access.

*A review of the restaurant, not the hotel overall* A difficult review to rate. On the one hand I’d give it 5 stars for the food, location and most of the service. However our experience after our meal with a gentleman we assumed to be the manager was a 2 at best. So to be as fair as possible I’ve rated it as 4, which is a real shame! Located very close to the marked square in the historic old town, we arrived at around 6 in bright sunshine and therefore asked for an outside table. Luckily parasols were up to offer shade from the sun which would come in useful later. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we both ordered the Bratwurst sausages with sauerkraut and bread, which was delicious and reasonably priced. Dark clouds gathered overhead and midway through our meal a torrential rain storm started almost instantly. We finished our meal huddled under the parasol, until even these weren’t helping much! We ventured inside to seek shelter and wait for the rain to stop, asking the aforementioned gentleman if there was somewhere we could sit and buy a drink in the meantime, such as a bar or lounge area. He very rudely and abruptly answered no, and that all their tables were reserved. After explaining that we had already eaten outside and just wanted to shelter from the rain he reluctantly pointed at a table in the restaurant and said sit there but only until 7 when it’s booked. We sat at the table but did not feel comfortable, and as it was now 6.45 we decided it wasn’t worth ordering a drink and instead paid our bill and left into the rain. It was a shame, as this spoiled the experience for us. As I said based on the food and waiting staff alone it was well worth a 5 star rating, however based on our own overall experience I feel a 4 is more than generous.

Hospitality of all staff was overwhelming. So professional friendly and efficient! The rooms were lovely, bed and pillows very comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Breakfast, dinner delicious. Most importantly my gluten free dietary requirement was actioned without prompting. I was presented with a basket of GF bread options each morning, way too much for one person. The breakfast buffet fantastic. I cannot recommend this beautiful little gem highly enough. Thank you to the team at a hotel Sonne.

New owners and their staff are wonderful ! We had another great experience here again. The rooms are very comfortable and newly remodeled with modern bathrooms. The greatest part is that this hotel is located right in the city center, old town, inside the walls, so that you really experience the feel of the romantic Rothenburg. The food was a pleasant surprise, all fresh and locally sourced. I had the best Spargel Suppe (Asparagus soup ) I have ever had and it is one of my favorite things. The breakfast room is also remodeled and modern with a pleasing presentation and variety of foods. Service is wonderful. I guess we couldn’t have asked for a better stay! If you are staying in Rothenburg, we would highly recommend this quaint hotel. You will not be disappointed.

We have stayed here now multiple times. It is located right in the city center in the Pedestrian zone so close to absolutely everything and yet quiet in the morning ! They renovated and updated during the pandemic and it is better now than before. Beds are comfortable with duvets and the newly renovated bathrooms have in floor heat. So appreciated and a nice luxury ! The new owner and staff were overly accommodating and made our stay even better this time around ! Parking nearby was easy and we love staying inside the walls of Rothenburg to get the full experience of this historic town. Breakfast in the newly renovated breakfast room was relaxing and fresh and they pride themselves on locally sustained and raised food . If coming to Rothenburg o.d.T., we highly recommend staying at Hotel Sonne.
