The hotel is situated in a beautiful place with great views of the coast. We visited, as non residents, for dinner with friends. We arrived in good time and noticed that the hotel seemed to be quite busy it’s people dining in the conservatory with great views. We were shown to our table which was in an otherwise empty room. Our table was in the middle of the room, there was no atmosphere whatsoever in this room. We had been put in the breakfast room as close by the toaster, packets of cereal etc we’re waiting for the morning. We were given menus by a very friendly waitress along with a wine list. We ordered a bottle of wine which was brought to the table and plonked down. In an establishment such as this I would have expected that we would have, at least been opened, shown the label and asked if we’d like to taste. Two other tables were then occupied so we didn’t feel quite as though we were in the way. The room was cold so we didn’t take off our jackets-shame that a fire hadn’t been lit in the fireplace. As well as providing some heat it would have added a warm ambience. The meals arrived , the steaks were good however the fish was overcooked and only warm, the veggie wellington looked dry and unappetising however it tasted ok. We thought we’d have coffee in the lounge however this was also cold with an empty fireplace we passed on that. Apparently as non residents we were unusual and splitting the bill in half caused confusion. Overall it’s a lovely setting but training for staff should be higher on the agenda as we likened it to Faulty Towers.
