The hotel is very pretty and elegant. They gave me a room on the 6th floor which was the highest floor possible and really hot. My room was consistently about 80 degrees and regardless of trying to adjust the room temperature the lowest i managed to get the room to was 76 degrees. Sleeping in that much heat dried out my skin badly and i woke up each morning feeling like i had suffered heat stroke. The windows do not open either for ventilation. The shower water was about Luke warm to cold and periodically shut on and off (must be old plumbing), but that made showering pretty miserable. The room was clean enough, but i did find a lot of random hairs around the bathroom, especially in the bathtub area and on the walls. There were a lot of random sounds in the night, echoing children’s voices and banging in the pipes it sounded like. I didn’t know this was considered a ******* hotel when i booked it so maybe that is part of the allure, I don’t know. It was honestly a gorgeous historic hotel and the location was perfect to see the sites in downtown Salem. Parking was perfect out back. If i weren’t for the room being so overwhelmingly hot and the water being so cold and janky, I would have had a more pleasant experience.
