Protea Hotel Stellenbosch and Conference Centre

Quite and comfortable hotel with parking, several restaurants and a winery near it. Swimming pool is rather small (it is only one minor minus of this hotel), breakfast is varied, coffee is tasty. You need a car to go somewhere because we didn-t see any public transport there. But in SA it is a normal practice to explore Cape Town by car.

My wife and I have been frequenting PH Stellenbosch for over 20 years now and it is wonderful (although not surprising!) to see how popular it still is. Perhaps, it is because it is so beautifully situated on a hill overlooking vineyards and majestic mountains. Another reason is, undoubtedly, because the owners and management are constantly upgrading the premises and its facilities! Latest additions include solar panels that cover the entire parking area. Here, guests need not fear power outages! Also recently completed is the totally revamped Cultivar restaurant where it is (and has always been!) such a pleasure to start the day with a hearty breakfast. But, perhaps, the greatest attraction of this unique establishment is the friendliness and warmth of the staff. They are, indeed, a precious asset of PH Stellenbosch.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. I was looking forward to my second visit and it did not disappoint. The hotel is so comfortable, clean and very well looked after by all the staff. It is also very handy for the business park which is a huge benefit! All members of staff are extremely friendly and approachable. It was an absolute joy to stay and eat here. The food is incredible. The options at breakfast are great. Lots of options and amazing quality. The restaurant is also a great place to visit where again the food is delicious. Amazing quality and value for money. The manager Henry (I think) was very approachable and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our visit. Very lovely touch. Thank you everyone at the hotel for making it such an enjoyable visit!

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, always helpful when we needed anything. The room was always clean and so comfy, I slept like an actual baby every night. The heating stopped working but was fixed straight away. FOOD WAS AMAZING EVERY NIGHT Honestly so happy with the stay as we were there for 2 weeks and have no complaints at all. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Stellenbosch. The only slight issue we had, water gradually got colder and wasn't as hot for when we wanted to have a bath.

I stayed in the Protea Stellenbosch as part of a group trip to South Africa. The room was great, with good amenities. The rest of the hotel provided great food, services and places to relax. Best of all, the view from the main building of the hotel was stunning!

One of the least inviting hotels I've ever stayed in. Rates quoted were the same for suites and rooms - however very different in offerings and experience. No atmosphere, little information on anything bar room service available in rooms. Had the misfortune to not have one but two sporting groups staying during the same time plus a big group of youngsters checking in on the 3rd night of our stay. Chemicals used to clean the rooms were so strong it actually your eyes watering. Attention to details lacking and little consistency in even the basic offerings in the rooms. I would not recommend this hotel for any leisure stay - it's geared for general conferencing.

We booked a reservation at this hotel for our daughter, since she was to attend a wedding in the area, through *******. When she arrived after a long indirect flight from New York, she was told that they had no record of the reservation, despite the fact that she had a record of the reservation with a confirmation code. When she asked to get a room anyway while the issue was being worked out, she was told that they were overbooked (the real reason they couldn't find the reservation?). They reluctantly put her up for a night in basically a closet. She managed to get a room at the sister hotel in Cape Town. But that hotel demanded full payment in advance. They wouldn't accept our credit card information over the phone. Eventually my daughter paid out of her emergency funds. After she paid the hotel kept hounding me for full payment, until eventually they confessed that they were already paid. Moral: Stay away from Protea Hotels

The view over De Zalze was fantastic! The unit size was comfortable for two people and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was average - some of the pre prepared food tasted dusty, as if it was left for a long time before serving.
