斯沃尼奇大酒店(Grand Hotel Swanage)

Facilities were closed. We were not able to use gym or swimming pool, something we were looking forward to. No parking at or near the hotel, despite being informed we would be able to park. Staff were not helpful. I imagine it's because they were consumed by hosting a wedding, but that shouldn't take away from other clients. At 11pm, a random person entered the room and woke us whilst looking around the room, as staff had provided him with a key to our room. This is shocking. Incredibly poor and not what we paid for. We mentioned these issues and there was little sympathy and no offer of a refund. I hope the staff change their mind as it's clear this is not the service we paid for.

This hotel is a bit of a Tardis. From the front, it looks like a house, but at the back there is a large conservatory and garden, both overlooking the bay. The hotel is clearly old, with some uneven floors, but other than that, it gets all the essentials right: temperature (no aircon, but good heating), hot water, comfy beds and clean. Service is also very good. Main reasons to choose this hotel: the view and proximity to coastal path and Studland Bay National Trust - there is a large hill in between, but it is one of the prettiest hills in the area. There are also leisure facilities, but we did not visit those as the outside was so nice here.

Lovely room - bright immaculately clean with lovely bathroom facilities. Lovely dining area with sea views. Minor moan about lack of parking but found a space roadside and room wasn't ready even though we were checking in late afternoon.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel and wished we were staying longer as we only stayed the one night. The room was newly refurbished to a high standard. All the staff were polite and helpful from reception to bar staff and food service. It is a beautiful setting and you can access the promenade from the lovely gardens. The food was absolutely lovely. If I had to find something wrong then I could say the pillows were a bit soft for my liking (husband slept like a log on them) and the hairdryer could do with a longer flex on it. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

I think it's fair to say most things in this hotel are fairly dated but I was particularly disappointed to have chosen a sea view room where I wasnt able to see through half the window as the double glazing was shot. The bathroom had clearly vern renovated recently which was very nice. I also ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic! One member of staff at reception was lovely and couldnt do enough for you, the other that checked me out in the morning didn’t even ask about my stay but I think he was an exception as the restaurant staff were also brilliant.

We received a warm welcome and our room was ready ahead of check in time. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was well cooked and staff attentive and helpful. Views from conservatory at rear of hotel are lovely. We will definitely return.

PROS 2nd onsite manager dealt with our issues promptly and efficiently he was very helpful. The view is BEAUTIFUL. The gentleman and the young man at the bar were polite and helpful as we're the cleaners. CONS Lack of information when booking online. Terrible check in Failure to inform us not to drink tap water at hotel... Later to be told we can't and in the morning apparently the first floor is fine.... Old worn rooms, cracked tiles, blown windows, old furniture, broken ceiling tiles in pool, Plug hole in 2nd room jammed in... No one would come to fix it remained full of dirty water, cracked and very old shower head. Lack of communication, A lack of responsibility from the women at the reception who was unable to deal with our concerns. I can't comment on the food as we chose to walk to a local pub after our terrible experience so far. I was very much looking forward to our stay, we are local and wanted 1 night away to relax.... This building has so much potential its a great shame . I hope this hotel recieved the tlc it deserves

This hotel has such a special location overlooking the beautiful bay at Swanage. It is a small enough hotel to feel warm and personal too. The staff are lovely.
