Welcoming, clean, comfy well run family hotel. Ideal base for visiting family and experiencing the local area. Breakfast selection is good, with local ingredients adding to the quality. Sorry to say we only had one evening meal due to our itinerary. But it was worth the wait, especially the Ginger Torte. If that is the caliber of the desserts it’s worth the 2 hour drive just for them. Definitely a place to put on your visit list.

A lovely stay. We had 2 rooms, a twin and a double, that had a lovely lounge as well. We had been to the races, and booked taxis to and from. We had dinner here which was lovely, and a fabulous cooked breakfast. Very quaint village, really scenic.

Great place to stay, really friendly and helpful owners. Immaculately clean rooms. We had room 3 overlooking the front of the hotel Fabulous breakfast and great evening meals. Short walk around the river to Tintern village Great hotel in a great location Highly recommended

We had a wonderful 2 night stay. It is our second time here although we have tried three times before. Barry kindly recommended an alternative in Tintern on one of those occasions. Breakfast is filling with an excellent choice and we had an evening meal on one of the evenings (fish and chips, but extra special not like some places we have eaten at. Dessert for one of us but I couldn't manage anything else! Exceedingly clean room (no 4, no spiders once again, down to Taz)? I am already looking at returning in the near future. On a weekend away visited Tintern Abbey and found this lovely hotel that had a very cosy lounge bar , 2 lovely fires on and very welcoming. We had really good real ale and a fabulous ploughman’s lunch with 3 local cheeses and some delicious home cooked ham . Would definitely recommend and visit again . Thank you for your hospitality .

Lovely, comfortable traditional hotel with lots of charm and comfortable and relaxing bar and lounge areas. The owners made us feel comfortable and welcome. They even went out of their way to meet us early the next day on our hike to deliver the lunch sandwiches we had left behind at the hotel!

A lovely hotel in the heart of the Wye Valley, 10mins from Chepstow surrounded by beautiful countryside. Easy walking to the Abbey, Tintern station and the River Wye walks literally just across the road. The hotel has amazing rooms with new bathrooms, all incredibly clean and luxurious linen. Breakfast is 11 out of 10, locally sourced sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms etc, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and juice all served in a spacious dining room. The staff were all very helpful, Barry recommended walks and lent us books of the local area. Both Sue and Grace, chatted to us and couldn’t be more helpful explaining the menu and their recommendations of where to go. Most definitely the place to stay and we will be going back again and again, with your pets if you like. Very pet friendly. 🐾

We had a very comfortable 3 night stay in a large room, with everything we needed. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. The cooked breakfast was delicious, especially the bacon. At the evening meal we were spoilt for choice and everything we both ate was fabulous.

Lovely hotel, has a real homely feel to it. I think it looks so inviting from outside. As we arrived in tintern and drove through the village to the hotel, we rounded the corner and my mum said 'oh the wye valley hotel, that looks nice'. I said, 'that's where we're staying!' We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. Delicious breakfast in the morning, with butchers sausage, bacon, good quality eggs, tomato and mushrooms. It filled us up till our evening meal. The evening meals were also very good quality, proper homecooked food, amazing fish and chips! Barry and Sue were such lovely hosts, friendly and took a genuine interest in where we were going each day. The staff we met of an evening were also really friendly and attentive. Our rooms were bright and airy. Very clean and the tea tray had an array of teas and coffee and packet of biscuits. It was great they were replenished each day as some hotels don't do this. The bar had a real traditional feel to it, nice atmosphere to eat in for our evening meal. We chose to eat at the hotel for all 3 of our nights.

What a lovely hotel! My room was bright and clean, hotel staff were attentive and polite, food was fabulous (ate evening meal and breakfast there over the course of a one night business stay.). It also felt good value for money. The location was just fantastic - 15 mins drive outside Chepstow. Will definitely be back

Contemporary decor, friendly staff, parking, clean and tidy and a brilliant, well cooked meal. Couldn’t ask for more from a local pub/restaurant. Food and table/bar service was excellent. Food was hot, well cooked and plentiful. Drinks cold & well served.

We stayed in Tintern, which is a beautiful village with 5 places to eat. We sampled 4 out of the 5 during our week long stay. The River Wye Hotel had a traditional feel about it. We ended up eating here 3 evenings out of the 7. The menu changed twice during that time as they use seasonal ingredients and it depends on the weather and what they can source. We ate on a Sunday and my girls enjoyed the Sunday roast. The Gammon, Brie and peach was different but very tasty. My husband ordered a smoked salmon and crayfish salad, which he enjoyed. The next time we visited, we had the homemade pies. Sue makes the most delicious pies. We had the beef and mushroom. It was one of the nicest pies we had tasted. We returned the following evening and she made chicken and ham pies especially for us. We couldn’t fault this place for their hospitality, service and food quality. Thank you for helping make our holiday special.

This is basically a pub with rooms . First impressions were not great as it seemed in need of modernisation . However our room was excellent with a lovely big bed and a bright bathroom . Loved the clock in the large bathroom mirror . The shower could have been more powerful The owners and staff were very friendly and the bar had a good selection of local beers . Good breakfast and somewhere to definitely stay at again

From the minute you enter this place you are made to feel very welcome. Staff are superb and provide first class service. It was busy in the bar and we wanted to eat so they showed us to their other room which was huge. There was only us dining there but it didn't matter as we certainly weren't forgotten. We both ordered fish n chips....they were the best ever! Beautifully succulent fish and a mass of fabulous chips. They say there's garnish with it- it's more than that it's a lovely little salad. Wish we had gone there the first night instead of The Wild Hare who have no idea about customer service.
