Unfortunately, this was one of my lesser hotel experiences. I had booked (and paid for) a room but walked away frustrated during check-in because of the receptionist's attitude. Here's my story in brief: Upon arrival, I was asked to pay the tourist tax. I noted that I had anticipated this since I had also paid these costs on-site during my stay at the same hotel the previous week; however, the booking had stated that the price included all taxes and fees. It wasn't about the amounts (just a few euros). My comment was intended as feedback, so the hotel could better align the information on the booking sites with reality. The staff member immediately became defensive and claimed I was wrong and that the problem was with the booking sites. As if I had made a mistake. After this unpleasant reception, I went to my room. I had specifically looked for a hotel room with a larger bed for more space around me and had found a twin bed online at Leonardo. However, upon arrival, it turned out to be a single bed, pushed against the wall. When I mentioned downstairs that I had booked a twin bed, I was told that I was wrong according to her system. A kind of blaming discussion ensued, stating I could have known this because I had been there the previous week (although I had a different room with a double bed then). I could get another room, but for an extra charge. When she asked me to send a screenshot, I pressed forward in my confirmation email and handed her my phone to enter the email address. Apparently, my attitude was not right: she said she would refused to help me further this way. She was busy enough (I was the only guest at the reception at that time). I did not use a single rude word and simply spoke in a calm tone. The approach of blaming the other first, responding gruffly and unfriendly, and then making accusations was unacceptable to me. I left and booked a hotel room elsewhere, where taxes and fees were indeed included in the online paid amount. It was anything but a relaxing evening in preparation for my next workday. For comparison, my hotel experience from the previous week: the room was decent, somewhat dated, but the location is ideal next to the station. The staff were much friendlier and more polite then. My stay was otherwise satisfactory.
We love this hotel! It's location is just perfect -- very near the Utrecht Central station and many other places of interest, inside the mall and very accessible. We just walked from the hotel's mall entrance to Vredenburg, DomKerk, Oudegracht and the canal area. There's a Jumbo supermarket too near the hotel's mall entrance. And for those with heavy luggage, the mall lift (to/from station level) is just beside the hotel entrance. The staff especially in the cafe are friendly, warm and helpful. The breakfast buffet spread is the same every morning but everything tasted good. The room was spacious and comfortable and ours had a nice view. Wifi was fast, outlets were adequate. It lacked some bathroom or room knobs/hooks though and the shower handle should be wider to accommodate a bath towel. Overall, this is an excellent choice in Utrecht. Definitely worth the money!
No problem with online reservation. Cheaper rate if paid in advance. No cash payment accepted on site. About a 7-minute walk from the train station and right beside the old town. Self-check-in/out possible (works well) or in person. Locker available free. Elevator. Room with large comfortable bed at the back of the building very clean and quiet but really not spacious. Small shelf for a carry-on suitcase & a sink. Some hooks on the wall but not quite enough. A towel rail would be nice. Decent shower but no curtain so water spreads to toilet (dries quickly but a curtain would be better). Towels, basic toiletries and blow-dryer. Large t.v. Good wi-fi. Towels changed and garbage emptied every day. No fridge or microwave in sight (too bad!). Restaurant downstairs offers breakfast & other meals ($). Albert Heijn grocery stores at train station & underneath town library accepts cash at service counter. Pleasant & helpful staff. Would stay there again!
Loved everything about this hotel. Very hip! Staff lovely especially Lucy who checked us in. Had a lovely room overlooking the canal. The room is an average size and bathroom is small but this didn't bother us as it's very functional. Also everything is very clean. Just one thing to be aware of... if you get a train from Schiphol Airport to Utrecht Central you then have to get a train from Utrecht Central - Platform 15 - to Vaartsche Rijn. It's only 1 stop. Moxy is just across from the VR train station. Situated in a lovely area with lovely canal walks. I'd highly recommend a stay here and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on my return to Utrecht.
cheap, not clean, but staff polite and nice.I have tried this hotel for the location, but it shows lack of management. Dirty glasses from the evening still on the table at 9 oclock am. the fridge wasnt working in my room and nobody ever came to fix it, in 3 days i was there. Badly built from the start, impossible to wash ones face without wetting the floor, with the shelf covering half the basin. But the reception staff and the people at breakfast were smiling and trying to be helpful.
