Anna’s House was lovely and clean. Located about 50 mins from Chania airport. Arrived at Anna’s House late, about 11.30pm after delayed flight and they were very accommodating. Arranged for the bar to remain open and they cooked us a pizza and gave us an ice-cold beer. Anna’s house is split into two sections – one with main reception, pool and pool bar/breakfast restaurant and another section which is a short 100 metre walk down the road. We were ‘upgraded’ to the section down the road which I think had more self-catering apartments. Our upgrade was perfect as we got a 1 bedroom apartment which a kitchenette and two balconies. It meant we could have separate rooms, which as nice. I would say that the main section with pool etc was much nicer and kept up better, neat gardens, clean, pool, bar etc. The grass at the self-catering section was very long and it looked a bit older and not as pristine or maintained. A few cracked glass balcony areas etc Although the grass was long etc, it did get cut on the last day of our holiday which made it look at lot better. It was still nice, but I think the main hotel section was better. Our apartment was spacious and clean with comfy beds. Pool was large and attractive. Enough loungers for us but hotel was quite quiet as not that many guests. The online photos showed a kids splash area but we didn’t see that. As well as a gym but we didn’t look for that either. There were some young children around and there was a little paddling pool attached to the main pool too. Staff were brilliant. All so friendly and helpful. Bar manager was fabulous as was the receptionist. All fab! Breakfast was amazing, delicious choice of pasties, freshly cooked waffles and pancakes, fruit etc and omelette/egg chef too which was a great treat. Drinks and cocktails were served quickly around the pool too, which was great during the day. Anna’s house was about a 10 min walk into town. Walking down to town whilst it was daylight was no problem, there were a few others walking that route too. Coming back after dark was a little unnerving. Although we had no trouble, it felt very remote walking out of town as two women. We didn’t pass any other people walking and some cars would drive past. As I say, we didn’t experience anything bad but we were quite nervous each night knowing we had to ‘do the walk’ and had our wits about us. I wouldn’t have wanted to do it alone or with the kids. Sadly, as Anna’s house isn’t actually that far, it was not worth a taxi driver taking us. Town was nice with some shops and restaurants. We had some lovely meals but really only a handful of lovely pretty tavernas to choose from. If we were there longer than 4 nights we would be stuck for choice. Beach- You can walk from Anna’s but you are the town end which is very busy and quite narrow. We got a taxi from Anna’s (Euro 6) and went further down the beach, which still had beach bars, wide beach and was stunning. Overall, great place!
We came Hereford our honeymoon after moving from elsewhere. This family could not do enough for us. Spotless room and right close to the beach. We were made to feel extra special this after all is run by the family with good family attention to detail. The restaurant is wonderful also. Mamma's moussaka is to die for. This family has made a bad start to our honeymoon very special by just doing what they do best..care for their clientel.dont miss out on this wonderful hotel and town.
Originally booked for Fereniki resort and spa but after reading the bad reviews we changed to this hotel the best decision. Returned on 11 August for 7 nights, apartment room 201 bed and breakfast. Arrived 1am room were signposted on reception and emailed in advance too Extra cost €6 air-con was not aware of this was not included would have been nice to have the option to have on first night or complementary if arriving early hours. Also a note in room explaining Air-con, time for breakfast, swimming pool times and how to use induction Hob would be very useful. Room lovely with balcony, opposite road and another hotel but the room was sound proof very quiet at night. Bed and pillows comfortable slept very well all week. Air con lowest setting 24 but this is cold enough ended up setting it to 26 so i didn’t wake in the night. Fridge has freezer section too, room comes with all the basics and a toaster. Room cleaned everyday, towels and sheets changed every other day except Sunday no cleaning service. Cleaner very polite and does amazing job. Breakfast served from 8am to 10am very accommodating as vegetarian and my 3 year old son. Pool opens 9am to 7pm Deep end 2.2m No one reserves sun beds and there is enough sun beds for everyone. The majority of the week we had pool to ourselves. Lovely family resort the owner very friendly and proud keeping areas clean and tidy, anything I asked for no problem! We would definitely return and slowly recovering from holiday blues. Also recommend Kournas Lake taxi 1-4ppl €8 one way 5-8ppl €12. This was amazing you can hire peddle boats €15 for an hour we hire for two €30 but worth it and we saw 3 turtles, we did this in the afternoon but could do all day there are restaurants and parks for kids, shops. If you have kids recommend the Rainbow cafe it had bouncy castles, trampolines, crazy golf (14 hole) olay house slides perfect for kids. Also plays sports channels. Chapel visit was worth a visit but very dangerous if the sea rough as you have to walk over big rocks and the waves crashing as walking across make sure where proper shoes. At this end of the beach there is a lovely Cafe/bar. On the beach you have to pay to use the sunbeds €10 each but you can use the hotels facilities swimming pool and WC we use the Corissia Harmony and the food was lovely too.
If I could, I would have given this a 3.5 star review. I will start with the positives: - The beach in front of the hotel is excellent and the ”free” sunbeds were very good (although at busy times, they get full by 10am so bear that in mind if you like a late start to your day). - Corissia Park is lovely with its large swimming pool and restaurant. - Buffet breakfast was very good and varied. The freshly made waffles were a highlight. - Our room was spacious and had a much needed fridge and good air-conditioning (but read on about its negatives). - Location is great, literally 1-2 minutes walk between room, beach, Corissia Park, village centre, supermarket etc. The things that could (and should - given the price we paid) have been better: - The hotel is advertised as being 4-stars. Our room was not in the actual hotel building but about 60 metres away. It was basically a very basic 2-room Airbnb type accommodation, but with no kitchen or living room. Nowhere near 4-star quality. The furniture was basic and unattractive. The walls were full of marks from dead mosquitoes, cleaners just ignored them. The toilet always had an unpleasant smell. We bought our own air-freshener to use while we stayed there. - Cleaning, in general, wasn't great. Cleaners would come in the afternoon, not in the morning and the quality of the cleaning was so-so. - I mentioned earlier that buffet breakfast was great. Buffet dinner was not as good. Whereas breakfast includes free water, juices etc, dinner does not include anything to drink at all - not even water. A 1-litre bottle of water costs a shameful 3.60 Euros! In Greece, most restaurants provide free tap water or charge a very small amount for bottled water. 3.60 Euros for a 1-littre bottle of water in Greece is an absolute rip-off and shows disrespect towards the hotel's customers. - The hotel attracts mainly German tourists, which is absolutely fine, they were very well behaved and I like German people and have visited Germany many times. However, it is not just Germans that visit the hotel (we heard several non-German languages spoken by guests!). The hotel only seems to make an effort to please German guests however. When we were given the instructions to join the wi-fi, they were in German only! The TV in our room had pretty much only German channels - not even any Greek ones despite being in Greece! - Customer service from the hotel reception was hit and miss. The people at reception didn't feel very friendly or trying hard to help. Maybe because we didn't speak German? We expected better. Overall, we did enjoy our stay, but given the premium prices we paid (over 300 Euros per night) we did expect better.
