After years of visiting this wellness, I made a booking for the hotel for Jan 1st to 2nd to start the year in full relax mode. It was a disappointment at best. First impressions are everlasting impressions in any business. Especially in the hospitality business. When anyone walks through the doors of a hotel, those first 2 minutes determines the entire perspective on their stay. My initial experience walking into this place unfortunately set a nasty outlook. We showed up an hour earlier then our booking foreseed, and thus, basically got told to ”take a hike”. Allow me to elaborate… During the booking, I was asked to put an “estimated time of arrival”, however, as an internationally travelling guest, it is obviously impossible to input an exact time of arrival. Little did we know that this was going to be such an issue. We got told that, because I had input 12:00 in the system as my ESTIMATED arrival time, we were not allowed to check in or access the spa. We were even told that the wellness spa was closed, and would only open at 12:00 since it was Jan 1st (Regardless if we paid 2 full days of access). I couldn't help but wonder, if this is the case, why even offer 2 days of access for those specific days? It’s basically selling something that will never be delivered… in my business that’s called theft. Now, when I asked what could be done to accommodate us, they told us basically to take a hike.... Yep, ”Ga wandelen” is what she said, to be exact. As pissed off as I was, I couldn't help but notice loads of people inside, some getting stuff out of rooms, going to drop stuff in their cars, and going to the wellness.... yet, for us, nothing could be done to accommodate us! Nothing at all..... so, 340 € for a one-night stay just can't seem to offer any flexibility in this hotel. Not even access to sit at a restaurant, nothing, nada, ziltch! So we went for amazing jetlagged hike across the village and came back an hour later! By the time we returned, there was a huge line up at the check-in desk. We waited in line. The gentleman at the check-in apologized and offered us a complimentary bottle of wine in remediation for the inconveniences caused earlier. He also told us that we could enter the first room that had been cleaned, which was immediately available. He escorted us to our room and offered some information about the hotel facilities. I got the impression that this young staff member understood what happened, and really wanted to make our stay enjoyable - (our complimentary to him, good hospitality!!) The hotel was modern and well kept, some renovations and upgrades had been made. Our room was clean and accommodating, good size and well furnished. Coffee in the room was great! The bathroom had a full-size bath and was very functional. However, very little soap was available. Thankfully, previous experiences dictate me to bring my own. We started our experience at the wellness spa – I will review the spa separately.

A fairly basic hotel, 10 minutes by car from Maastricht. The room was adequate. We had chosen, at a slight premium, for a bigger room, which it was. The bed was a bit on the soft side. Carpet had seen better days. Most likely some decades ago. Bathroom was the same. Everything worked, but quite outdated. Breakfast was okay-ish. Very frequent refills, but quality wise nothing to write home about. Staff is very friendly. Parking lot of the hotel is not easy to find when coming from the direction of Maastricht. Parking lot was also full. Good thing there is a huge parking lot across the street. The main problems: Staff leaves at 10pm. The front door is locked from the on. Which is not an issue as you are given a key. But the elevator also get switched off. Which becomes an issue in case you are not abke to use the stairs. This piece of information is not on the website. I had requested a room either on ground level or acces by elevator, but only found out after check-in that I could not use the elevator after 10pm. An email would have been nice to let me know that I would need to be in my room before that time. The noise. This hotel is old, and noisy (hence turning off the elevator at night). Earplugs are available/in clear view at the front desk. Which should tell you how often this is an issue. During our stay the couple in the room above us thought a 2am shouting match was appropriate. It was not. I’m glad we were able to book the room at a serious discount. Otherwise the rating would have been much lower. I don’t think we will come back.

We booked our trip via Relais Château a long time ago and this was supposed to be a special weekend for my partner and I. While the hotel and location are supposedly great, we were disappointed by the spa facilities where there is no management of visitors so that the place was overcrowded and we had to sit on the floor as a result of a lack of chairs. The sauna was not functioning properly either. As for the restaurant, we had no choice of menu and food was imposed, which was also a pity. The room had been renovated but also room for improvement (e.g. coffee pad are not Nespresso but fake ones). All in all, this was an ok trip but given the expectations we had, this was a disappointment and we would not recommend it.

Samen met mijn moeder heb ik gebruik gemaakt van de nieuwjaarsspecial. Vanaf station Maastricht loop je door de heuvels in 2,5 uur naar het hotel toe. Aangekomen in het hotel zijn we vriendelijk ontvangen aan de balie en het inchecken gebeurde vrij snel. Kamer is eenvoudig maar van alle gemakken voorzien. Toilet is apart van de badkamer wat wij zeker als een + hebben ervaren. Voldoende handdoeken, koffie en thee, tv, WiFi, uitzicht naar buiten, zacht/stevig bed en inloop regendouche. Ivm de huidige maatregelen hebben wij op de kamer gedineerd. Dieet wensen waren bij het inchecken doorgegeven, maar daar is door het keuken team niet goed naar gekeken. Er was aangegeven dat persoon 1 geen paddenstoelen lust. Vervolgens bestond bij gang 1 de carpaccio (waar de paddenstoelen op de menukaart niet eens genoemd waren) voor de helft van t gerecht uit kantarellen. De t****e gang was tweemaal biefstuk medium rare besteld en bij aankomst op de kamer geeft de bediening aan dat 1 biefstuk welldone is. ‘Of dit erg is?’ We hadden trek, terug sturen naar de keuken zou langer duren omdat we op de kamer zaten, en het andere biefstuk zou dan afkoelen. We hebben toen aangegeven dat het wel erg is, maar weggooien is helemaal zonde! De chocolade taart maakte alles weer goed! Wat is die lekker. Het ontbijt moest op een afgesproken tijdstip afgehaald worden ivm afstand houden met andere gasten. Het afhalen was super geregeld en kon eenvoudig naar de kamer gebracht worden. Maar waar het ontbijt uit bestond liet wel te wensen over. De afbak broodjes waren koud, net als t gekookte ei en het roerei. De yoghurt en fruit kwamen in 2 bekers wat onhandig te delen was met twee personen. Beleg voor de broodjes bestond uit maar 1 plakje van alles (voor 2 personen? Moet het er dan niet 2 van alles zijn?) en het gebak was bevroren. Het verblijf op de kamer is echt heerlijk en de ligging van het hotel is perfect voor mensen die overdag de natuur in willen (en na afloop de kroeg opzoeken als het straks weer open mag na de lockdown). Maar voor het diner en ontbijt mag op dit moment vanuit het team iets meer aandacht zijn voor het naar de kamer gebracht wordt.
