Great location - fantastic food and the pies are amazing! it was a busy night but the staff were friendly and the service was excellent, we will be back to this quintessential central otago establishment.

My wife and I along with another couple traveled to the Waipiata Country Hotel for lunch well what an exceptional experience. We were welcomed by the Bar staff and introduced to the menu and specials that were available (the toasted sandwich was the prime advert apparently it has won several awards) In the bar was another couple having a meal and a pint with there dog asleep by their feet and close to the warm log fire. We all had the "toasty" and was it spectacular supported by a plate of chips washed down with an Emersons Pilsner the girls had a crisp Rose with Ice. Staff were excellent the premises were clean (includes toilets) we will be going back

Waipiata Hotel pie stop turned out to be a very guilty pleasure .... we had heard of its pie claim to fame. Cycling The Otago Rail Trail we had not long before had a substantial breakfast, so to stop for a pie an hour later was nothing other than greed, but the lamb shank pie was glorious, truly the best pie I have ever eaten, worth every guilty flaky pastry mouthful. A word of advice... have a light breakfast, maybe your guilt will be lesser than mine... maybe .

brilliant location near the rail trail, close to Ranfurly, absolutely excellent service and the food is world class very much a typical country pub, the host and staff are very friendly and the daily food specials are brilliant

Delicious food and great service - despite being incredibly busy the night we visited. Our meals were generous, and they good range of beers on tap. The staff were helpful and ensured our meals catered for our dietary requirements. Totally recommend this place!

3 of us tried their pies, steak and cheese and steak and blue cheese. Now you would imagine that in a steak and cheese pie there would be two specific tastes, steak and cheese. Thats where you are wrong, none of could taste the cheese in either of their pies. We ended up taking the top offr to check and saw a small amount of cheese but not enough to taste as it was overpowered by everything else. The meat, sauce and pastry were good but it ended up being a plain LARGE meat pie. I couldnt rate this pie any better as there was no cheese to taste and thats whats it is sold as. Ne needs to stop being stingy and be more generous with his cheese.

We were with a private driver who knew of this cafe, so we headed here on our way to Dunedin. It appears as if it is popular with bikers, as it was fairly busy for the time we were there, and the feel of it was very casual New Zealand. We had never had a meat pie, so we decided to try them - one beef and blue cheese and one venison. Another person in our party had the lamb shanks with mash and veggies. Outstanding all around. We would go back in a heartbeat!
