The hotel is set within a beautiful garden. There is a snooker room and bar area with seating in the garden. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t warm enough to sit out so we opted for the snooker room in the afternoon. The downstairs areas were clean and there is evidence to suggest the hotel has had a recent uplift but it’s still in need of modernisation. Areas had been redecorated, but the entire place doesn’t have any real identity or a**osphere. The seating and carpets were dated. It was also slow service ordering drinks on the sat afternoon. We stayed in a suite, which had a very comfy bed and robes/slippers. There was a variety of tea (inc herbal) and complimentary shortbread which was a nice touch. There was mould around the windows, bathtub, grubby cords and cobwebs above the blinds, which we informed reception about. We ate in the restaurant, which was ok. It’s an old fashioned setup with a limited menu. The steak was delicious, but they had run out of chips?! The cheese board was a bit drab so I’d recommend choosing something else. Breakfast was nice, good service and friendly staff. Overall it was average, not great value for money considering the price we paid. I imagine it would be adequate if you were attending an event on site, or visiting in summer when you can use the outdoor space. Be mindful that there is not much in the way of entertainment if you’re stuck indoors.
