Like most people, we came up this way for a quick onsen/snow monkey/Japan culture retreat. There was heavy snowfall the day we arrived, making the place look more like an alpine resort/winter wonderland vibe. - The staff were ridiculously attentive, friendly and respectful. - Rooms are traditional, warm and spacious. - We booked the stone private onsen, which felt great. This is about 9 pounds/75 RMB for 45 minutes. - As a vegetarian, I was humbled by how the front desk seemed to have been informed and they lead me through the changes they had made to my meals. As you can see from the pictures, the evening meal was an exquisitely-presented adventure through Japanese cuisine with local produce and served with zeal and pride. We wore our provided traditional Japanese wear to the two meals. The breakfast (Western or Japanese) choice was equally enjoyable and filling. - The local farmhouse bar and Enzo cafe are both nice local places to drink and eat too. - The hotel are great with directions and give a discount voucher for the monkey park too. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing wellness break and a traditional Japanese experience for 1-2 nights this place is perfect.
