Winter Sunshine

In winter, the sunshine in Eryuan is the most precious gift. The morning mist has not yet dissipated when the sun breaks through the clouds, gently shining on the blue tiles of the Bai courtyard, adding a touch of warmth to the cold and quiet winter days. By noon, the sunshine becomes even more generous. Villagers bring out bamboo chairs and sit in their courtyards to bask in the sun. The elderly squint their eyes chatting about daily life, children chase and play at the alley entrance, and the sunlight falling on them casts a soft golden edge. The reeds by West Lake shimmer pale yellow under the sun, waterfowl stretch their wings and freely circle in the light and shadow. I sit on the ridge of the field, letting the sunshine flow over my shoulders, the breeze carrying the fresh scent of dry grass, warmth spreading from my fingertips to my heart, dispelling all the cold. This kind of winter sunshine is not as scorching as in summer, but carries just the right amount of gentleness. It shines into ordinary alleys, illuminates the daily necessities of life, and smooths the wrinkles in the heart.
