Qicun Daiyue Temple, an important Taoist activity center and market fair venue in Qicun, Xinzhou.

Qicun Daiyue Temple, commonly known as the North Temple, was first built in the Song Dynasty and has been repaired throughout the ages. The main hall and offering hall are Qing Dynasty structures, while the rest are modern reconstructions. Daiyue Temple faces the Yunzhong River and is nestled against Phoenix Mountain, its layout following the natural contours of the land, fully embodying the essence of Taoism. "Man follows the earth, the earth follows heaven, heaven follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature." Nature is about following one's heart; therefore, the layout of Daiyue Temple, apart from the main gate, offering hall, and main hall which are arranged along a central axis, features other halls such as the Grandmother Hall, Yama Hall, Wenchang Hall, Shibao Hall, and Guan Gong Hall scattered haphazardly, seemingly without any particular order, following the natural flow. The main gate has a unique design, spanning seven bays. On either side of the roof stand pavilion-style bell and drum towers, and six divine generals guard the gate, exuding a powerful and imposing aura. Symmetrical stone flagpoles pierce the sky, and majestic stone lions protect the temple. The main hall is a square formed by 12 pillars, with curved eaves at the four corners and a glazed tile roof, exuding grandeur and magnificence. The coffered ceiling features a hollow lotus-shaped inscription, unique and exquisite. Two plaques, red with gold lettering, adorn the front and back. The front plaque reads: "Divine grace is boundless, blessing all directions." The back plaque reads: "The divine way is immeasurable, bringing fortune, prosperity, longevity, and joy." The main hall spans five bays with a single-eaved hip roof. It enshrines the Five Sacred Emperors of the Five Sacred Mountains (Huang Feihu) and the Four River Gods. Commonly known as the Five Sacred Mountains and Four Rivers, the Five Sacred Mountains refer to Mount Tai (East), Mount Hua (West), Mount Heng (South), Mount Heng (North), and Mount Song (Central); the Four Rivers refer to the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Huai River, and the Ji River. These nine deities, who govern the mountains and rivers, also essentially govern human fortune and misfortune. The Daiyue Hall, with its vast exterior and interior space, has become an important market place in the Qicun area. Every year, three nearby villages take turns hosting a large temple fair, greatly enriching the surrounding community's trade and cultural activities.
