Wulaofeng - The Place Where Immortals Hide

Today, I am going to climb Wulaofeng, the famous Taoist mountain in the north, with its highest peak at 1809.3 meters. Wulaofeng is located on the Zhongtiao Mountain, named after the five peaks that lean against each other, resembling five elderly men, also known as Donghua Mountain. Taking the cable car can directly reach the Taiyi Peak at an altitude of 1401 meters, where one can truly feel the thrill of being high in the sky during the journey. Currently, Wulaofeng is still under construction, with only Taiyi Peak, Chessboard Peak, and the highest Yuzhu Peak open to the public; the East and West Jinping Peaks have not yet been developed, and the Heilongtan is closed. The earliest buildings on Wulaofeng date back to the Northern Zhou Dynasty. It is said to be the birthplace of the Quanzhen School of Taoism. Lu Dongbin, Zhang Guolao, and others practiced here, and the Northern Song Dynasty's Yang Ye also stationed troops and trained here. The environment of the Wulaofeng scenic area is very pleasant, with wide and gentle stairs suitable for the elderly and children; the vegetation is lush, and it is currently the blooming season for mountain peach and apricot flowers. It's not the tourist peak season, so there are not many hikers, allowing one to truly enjoy the tranquility of the mountains and the time away from the hustle and bustle. Transportation is most convenient by self-driving, but for backpackers like us, having a tourist shuttle is the greatest blessing. Taking a taxi or hiring a car here is not cheap, but there are tourist shuttles from Yuncheng and Yongji, with one every hour on the hour, which is quite convenient if you time it right. The fare to Yongji is 5 yuan per person, and to Yuncheng is 10 yuan per person.
