Came here on June 26, 2014. Shen Congwen is a great writer from Fenghuang Ancient Town. His former residence is located in the center of Fenghuang Ancient Town. It can be found by walking into Zhongying Street on the south side of the "Fenghuang City" archway. The former residence was built by Shen Hongfu, Shen Congwen's grandfather, in the fifth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1866). Shen Congwen was born in this old house and lived there until he left his hometown at the age of 14. After Shen Congwen's death in 1988, the old house began to be open to tourists. Shen Congwen's former residence is a quadrangle building with a through-beam wooden structure. It is a typical style of Xiangxi folk houses in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is divided into two entrances, front and back, with a patio in the middle and wing rooms on both sides. There are 11 rooms in total. Today, there are Shen Congwen's remaining ink, manuscripts, relics and portraits here for viewing.
