When I came, I didn't do a careful strategy. The Pentagon can visit, and there is a visitor center that needs to be reserved 2 weeks in advance. It is a pity that the temporary non-in, the security staff is a standard American soldier, tall and handsome and friendly, repeatedly explained that you have to book on the computer in advance, and there is a big police dog next to you. Very dazzling, the photo person dizzy, I followed the pedestrians forward and walked unknowingly to the office area, met a black official, very politely said that there is no photo here, there is a visitor center to visit. When I left Washington, I saw the Pentagon in full view on the plane, and I was very emotional, really pentagon.
The Pentagon can go inside, but it needs to make an appointment in advance. Many scenic spots in the United States offer an appointment service. If it's not your turn to make an appointment, the Pentagon needs to look down from a high place to see the overall effect.
The Pentagon is the largest office building in the world by office space. It is the main headquarters of the US Department of Defense and a potent symbol of US military might. The Pentagon was built during the WWII era and became the main target of Russian nuclear attacks during the Cold War. I love the story about the cafe at the complex's center which was the bulls eye. The only real attack the Pentagon ever suffered was on 9/11 when terrorists flew a plane into its flank.
It is one of the few things I've recommended that require advance planning and reservations. Book your tour several weeks in advance and make sure you show up early with your id and reservation letter. The newer POW/MIA hall is impressive, the 9/11 Memorial is even more so. The vastness of this space is boggling, with a large, open center food court and shopping area for workers. Beautiful building just oozes honor and service to government.
This is on the second stop in Virginia on the blue line headed towards Franconia-Springfield. Right after Arlington. Although the building is in VA, it's mailing address is DC. You can get a tour of the massive office building by the Old Guard soldiers. You can also walk outside to see the 9/11 monument (benches and mini reflection pools).
was there before 9/11 had a great tour which I understand they no longer do
A very big, very confusing building that is clearly the central operation for the US Department of Defense. My brother is currently a marine working here so I got a very unique tour of the place. Even if you don't come from a military family, it's worth checking out. There are really interesting nuggets of history displayed throughout all of the hallways and you end up learning a lot about the making of the US Military.
