Palazzo Vecchio

The Palace of Vico (Palazzo Vecchio, Italian for “Old Palace”) is the city hall in Florence, Italy. Overlooking the Plaza of the Lord (Piazza della Signoria), it is the historical center of Florence and the main site of the origin and history of the Florence Republic, and still maintains its reputation as the city's political focus.

On the east side of the Lords Square, there is a very tall tower that goes up and overlooks the city, with a very beautiful roof. The palace itself is square and there are many sculptures in the interior, next to the mercenary pavilion.

In this square you can find a replica of Michelangelo's David. Interestingly, the "real" David stood on this very spot for 400 years before they realized its importance and it was moved inside.

Palazzo Vecchio is located in Piazza della Signoria and is the seat of the Commune. It represents the best synthesis of 14th-century civilian architecture and one of the most popular civic buildings in the world.Originally called "Palazzo dei Priori", it became the "Palazzo della Signoria" in the 15th century, named after the main body of the Florentine Republic; in 1540 it became a Palazzo Ducale, when Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici made his residence; finally, the Old name assumed it after 1565 when Duke Cosimo's court moved to the "new" Palazzo Pitti.From 1865 to 1871 was the seat of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy, while today it houses the Mayor of Florence and various municipal offices.
