Baima Temple is located 21 kilometers east of Luoyang Old Town, Henan Province, north of Luoshan, south of Luohe, founded in the East Han Yongping 11 years (68 AD), is the first monastery built after Buddhism entered China. After the creation of Baima Temple, China's "Monk" is widely known as "Temple". The White Horse Temple is also considered the birthplace of Chinese Buddhism, with the name of "Zuting" and "Shiyuan" of Chinese Buddhism.[1] The temple has preserved a large number of dry paintings of Yuan Dynasty Jiayu such as the third Buddha, the second day general, and the 18 Luohan, which is precious. In 1961, the White Horse Temple was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in the country. At present, Baima Temple covers an area of about 200 mu, according to the plan of Baima Temple Buddhist Culture Park, the area of Baima Temple will reach 1300 mu, becoming the largest Buddhist temple in China. Since its creation, Baima Temple has become the communication center of Chinese Buddhism. The first Chinese Buddhist scriptures, "42 chapters of the scriptures", were translated by the Magician and the Franz, and later by another Skyli monk, "Kejiaro", the first Chinese Buddhist scriptures, "Monk and the Warning of the Sang Dynasty", which were read by monks from other countries. [1] During the Northern Wei Dynasty, the incense of the Baima Temple was the most prosperous in Luoyang Temple. During the Tang Dynasty, Wu Zetian appointed her male favorite, Huaiyi, as the abbot of the Baima Temple, and carried out a large-scale expansion of the temple in the first year of the vertical arch (685). The White Horse Temple was then developed to the peak of history, with magnificent architecture, more than 1,000 monks and attracting Buddhists from all over the world to worship. The two renovations of Ming Jiajing in 34 years (1555) and Qing Kangxi in 52 years (1713) laid the pattern today. During the Republic of China, the Baima Temple gradually snubbed the depression and was disorganized. In the early years of the Republic of China, the Baima Temple rebuilt the Qingliangtai Pilu Pavilion and other temples under the abbot's preaching. In 1927, Feng Yuxiang's ministry was stationed in Luoyang. Because Feng was hostile to Buddhism, he sent people to the Baima Temple to demolish the temple Buddha statue. After the promotion of Dai Jitao, the president of the examination institute, the Shanghai Buddhist Society funded the renovation from the Republic of China in 23 years, built a total of ten houses, one bell and drum tower, more than 100 feet of walls, planted more than 7,000 trees, and purchased more than 180 mu of land. Muxi Master, Jingyan Master, Yuanxi Hang Jushi and others actively promote Buddhist education at Baima Temple, and have established Buddhist society and Buddhist school. [5][6] After the founding of the Communist Party of China in 1949, all religious activities were stopped. During the Cultural Revolution, the White Horse Temple was destroyed, including all Buddha statues, scriptures, including the 18 Luohans of the Liao Dynasty, the Bayeux Sutra brought by the Indian monks two thousand years ago, and the rare treasures of the jade horse. The relics were destroyed and the temple was almost burned. In 1972, the Chinese government restored the White Horse Temple to receive Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia, and then Premier Zhou Enlai ordered the Bayeux Jing of Beijing's Forbidden City and the Dry Paint III Buddha, the Second Day General, of the Great Buddha Hall of Cining Palace in Beijing. The 18th Luohan statue and a large number of legal instruments were deployed to the White Horse Temple, and these relics of the Forbidden City became treasures of the White Horse Temple.[7] Since 1983, the White Horse Temple has been declared a key Buddhist monastery by the Chinese government, and its religious use has been restored. [1] On July 18, 2015, the Baima Temple Wanfo Temple held a foundation site Sajing Law Conference to pray for the opening of the Wanfo Temple. This expansion is also the first large-scale expansion of the People's Republic of China since the founding of the People's Republic of China. The newly built Wanfo Temple is a wooden structure hall in the Han Dynasty style, with nine floors and six deep rooms, which is a heavy building.
The first Buddhist temple in China started in the Eastern Han Dynasty. The white horse outside the gate is a cultural relic of the Song Dynasty. There are a lot of people. There are also temples in Myanmar, Thailand & India. It is worth visiting, a very emotional temple, there are many monks living here. Live a relatively traditional life. The building of Baima Temple also has a long history. Witnessed that glorious era.
i really love this temple due to its tranquility and the sacred aroma surrounding us
White Horse Temple has a history of over 1900 years. It is the first temple built since Buddhism spread
Built in AD 68, it was the first temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Emperor Liu Zhuang of the Han Ming Dynasty sent people to Tianzhu to seek Buddhism. In Dayueshi in the Western Regions, he met a monk from Tianzhu who photographed Mo Teng and Zhu Falan to obtain Buddhist scriptures and statues. He then returned to Luoyang, the capital at that time, with a white horse carrying the scriptures. Emperor Ming of the Han Ming Dynasty ordered that it be built according to the Tianzhu style. The building was used by two eminent monks to live and translate the "Forty-Two Chapters Sutra". In order to commemorate the white horse's contribution to carrying the Sutra, it was named "White Horse Temple".
It was a family trip to China and we visited Luoyang and went to White Horse Temple
