蒙特利爾現代藝術博物館由魁北克政府建於1964年，原本屬於魁北克省政府文化局，1983年獨立出來。設館宗旨在於推廣與保存魁北克當代藝術家的美術作品與其它藝術，永久館藏有6000多件作品，並展出其它加拿大與國際當代藝術家的作品。這間美術館也是加拿大唯一一間同時設計給視覺藝術與表演藝術使用的文化機構，提供當代音樂、舞蹈一年一屆的蒙特利爾國際電影節就在此地舉辦。、實驗劇場等的表演場地。
