Great location near the river and the castle. All I like in a hotel - sober, modern, all need amenities that I need. good room, well organized. good wifi! There’s going to be an indoor pool. It will be perfect!

The hotel has a great location in the town. However it really needs updating, the bedrooms are dated and gloomy. The reception staff are friendly and helpful but breakfast is chaotic. There is one coffee machine which also provides the hot water for tea unless you can find someone to give you a pot of hot water which if it arrives has no lid. The lifts are very slow and not enough of them given there are no visible stairs to use.

We booked a one night stay the Forte de Sao Francisco en route between Santander and the Algarve, The public rooms and bedroom are in a tastefully restored old fort. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Plenty of parking close to reception and the rooms. The staff are amazing and could not be more friendly and helpful. Where this hotel went the extra mile for us was my wife left her favorite coat in the room when we checked out The receptionist arranged for the coat t be couriered to our holiday home in southern Portugal, and then would not allow us to reimburse them with the cost, How's that for service ? We will certainly be using the Forte de Sao Francisco when we next visit Chaves, and would unreservedly recommend this lovely hotel to other travelers looking for accommodation in northern Portugal.

We spent a night here during a cycle tour. The location of the hotel and its surroundings create a feeling of space and being close to nature. Rooms are well equipped and comfortable, and the view from the balcony across woodland looks and feels very relaxing. The hotel is modern and cleverly designed, often giving the impression that you are one of a small number of guests before it becomes clear at breakfast that there are many more visitors than you had imagined. I’d like to make particular mention of the staff who looked after us superbly at dinner.

I don't know where to start really. The whole experience at Vidago Palace was truly perfect. From every member of staff, food in all the restaurants/bar, bedrooms where I had the best 4 nights sleep that I had in ages, the grounds and the excursions. If you want a special holiday or short escape, visit here. You won't be disappointed.

Just exceptional. The room was comfy, the spa wonderful, breakfast buffet excellent. The whole place was spotless but what made it for us was the staff... friendly and professional. Nothing was too much bother. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Currently staying for 2 nights for my birthday weekend. Hotel is super modern. Some signs and wear and tear. Very clean and staff nice. House staff really friendly. Had dinner last evening in-house resturant. Wasn't blown away, quality let it down. Waitress didn't take the order correctly. But that was a good thing. For quality of food it was expensive at €76 for 2 people, and the steak was so tough. Very bad. Chaves itself is super pretty. Would stay at hotel again but not use in-house resturant for more than breakfast.

We only stayed one night as part of a longer N2/Portugal tour road trip but if I could give a mark more than excellent I would. We were so very impressed with this hotel - one of the best surprises of our trip. That ibis can take an old building, bring it back to life and turn it into a hotel without charging people a load of money to stay there is fantastic. Well done Ibis :=) We won't be returning to Chaves since it was part of our longer trip but we will definitely be looking out for Ibis Style in the future. Our room wasn't enourmous, but everything we needed was in there with storage for clothes and a very comfy bed - we both had a good sleep. Bathroom was good with a big walk in shower and plenty of hot water.

I was stunned by this hotel. Set in rural Portugal, near the Spanish border, this spa resort is beautiful. Very modern, clean, well equipped throughout, incredibly welcoming staff and superb food in the restaurant. The hotel is the perfect mix of old and new as it is set on an old vineyard, with modern extensions which complement the original 1700's building. Outside the back side is a huge stone terrace which extends the whole width of the 1700's original building with views of the mountains and spa pool and beautiful gardens. The old part of the hotel is magnificent, but we also enjoyed the comfort of our modern room which had a huge terrace overlooking the valley. Everyone working there was friendly and efficient, and the owner spoke English perfectly. I would really recommend this place to anyone visiting northern Portugal. It made for a great relaxing break for my older parents in there 80’s to relax and enjoy the slower pace from Lisbon and before moving on to Porto on a 12 day vacation. The attention to detail and 'nothing's a problem' attitude from everyone we come into contact with is just exceptional. The breakfast is plentiful and has a great selection. We were very happy with the breakfast which offered a large variety of fruit and breads, cheese, ham, several types of jam, as well as cereal and yogurt. The evening meals are so good that you can't stop eating! The manager/owner, Fernando, is the most gracious host that will attend to your every need, while assuring your quality experience is filled with lasting memories and a strong desire to return again. In the evenings we dined in the hotel restaurant. Fernando was truly a phenomenal host, who made us feel welcome. On one of the evenings, he started us off with local sausages and cheese along with some local port from the local vineyard. He made excellent recommendations for our wines and did not disappoint with his selections. The food was delicious. We ate there every night for 4 nights, and everything kept meeting and exceeding our expectations. The beef is something that the region is known for, and it was delicious. Fernando also took us on a tour of the impressive 17th century wine making that uses filtration and gravity. The preservation of the original wine making is located in the lower area that is used for wedding receptions and large parties. The way it is incorporated into the new modern areas was impressive. I will be visiting Portugal in the future and will be re-visiting Fernando's Hotel Rural Casas Novas. We truly enjoyed our stayed here while we visited local vineyards, Chaves and Peneda-Geres National Park.

Hotel impecável. Piscina, jacuzzi :). Preço qualidade excelente. Os quartos muito bem decorados. O pequeno almoço simples,mas bom! É certamente um sítio a voltar. O check-in até às 12:00 tb é bom, dá para aproveitar e ver os jardins a volta

Nous avons séjourné dans cet hôtel pour un week-end complet et l'expérience ne correspondait pas à nos attentes d'un établissement 4 étoiles. Le principal point négatif concerne le spa et la piscine, annoncés comme des avantages mais facturés 15 euros par personne pour une heure d'utilisation. Cette information n'était pas annoncée sur Booking et nous l'avons découvert trop tard. De plus, le personnel à la réception a insisté sur la limitation à une heure par personne, attribuée au prétendu surbooking, nous laissant finalement déçus et sans essayer le spa. Le cadre de l'hôtel était froid et sans vie, tout comme la température des chambres. Malgré nos efforts pour régler le chauffage à 32 degrés, la température baissait automatiquement, nous obligeant à dormir habillés pendant une partie de la nuit. Les chambres en béton armé semblaient être la cause de ce problème de chauffage inefficace. Le petit-déjeuner était décevant avec des produits industriels, des confitures sans saveur et même une imitation de Nutella. De plus, le comportement du personnel pendant le petit-déjeuner était désordonné, avec un va-et-vient constant autour du buffet. Nous avons également été préoccupés par la sécurité, car le chariot de la femme de ménage exposait la carte pass pour toutes les chambres de l'hôtel, accessible à tous. Cette négligence dans la sécurité est inacceptable. Bien que l'hôtel soit neuf, propre et le personnel accueillant, ces points négatifs, notamment le problème de chauffage et les frais inattendus pour le spa, ont considérablement entaché notre expérience. Nous déconseillons particulièrement cet établissement... en hiver. Les points positifs de notre séjour résident dans l'hôtel neuf et son design moderne, la propreté exemplaire, ainsi qu'un accueil chaleureux à la réception.
