A while ago, my family and I visited the famous Hayashi Department Store in Tainan. This six-story building, built during the Japanese colonial period, is one of Taiwan's early modern department stores and is full of history and nostalgia. We took the antique elevator and explored the specialty shops and exhibition spaces on each floor. From cultural and creative products, local crafts, to old photos of Tainan in the past, every corner is fascinating. We went to the top floor and visited the only shrine on the roof of a department store in Taiwan. The view of the city was quite unique. This trip to Hayashi Department Store not only allowed us to learn about Tainan’s history, but also allowed us to experience the unique charm of the fusion of culture and shopping.

You can definitely go to Hayashi Department Store to have a look. The old building has a very interesting atmosphere. You will find many unique small items and souvenirs when you walk around upstairs and downstairs. It is very suitable for buying some souvenirs to take home!
The elevator is also very retro!
Whether you like cultural and creative, nostalgic style, or simply want to experience the charm of old houses in Tainan, this place is worth a visit~

Since I have come to Tainan, how can I not visit this so-called Lin Department Store? As soon as I entered the door, I found that the retro elevator was quite unique. The service staff was quite polite and opened the door respectfully for me. I gave them some face and let them ride in.
The desserts in the cafe on the second floor were barely edible, not as good as the exquisite desserts I tasted in Paris, but the hand-brewed coffee was of quite good quality, which surprised me a little.
The ruins of the shrine on the top floor have a unique charm. When the wind blows, my hair dances lightly, attracting many envious glances. Those cultural and creative products? snort! Although the designs are acceptable, I only picked out the most unique ones. After all, how can ordinary things be included in my collection?
All in all, it's barely worth my while to visit. I might come again next time I come to Tainan!

Tainan Hayashi Department Store, a century-old building that combines history and innovation, has witnessed the prosperity and changes of Tainan. Built in 1932, this six-story department store was once a symbol of the times. Now, after restoration, it has been transformed into a shopping space full of cultural and creative atmosphere. The museum sells Taiwanese specialty products, designer brands and handmade products, exuding a strong retro style everywhere. Take the old-fashioned elevator to the top floor, where you can not only enjoy the beautiful city view, but also discover the hidden "Five-story Shrine", which adds to the mystery. Walking through it, it feels like walking into a time tunnel and feeling the unique cultural charm of Tainan.

Walking along Anping Old Street in Tainan is like stepping into one of the oldest streets in Taiwan, where the rich historical atmosphere and the bustling market are perfectly integrated. The red brick buildings and retro street lamps have witnessed hundreds of years of prosperity, while the snacks and handmade shops in the alleys are even more fascinating. While tasting Anping tofu pudding, shrimp cakes, and candied fruits, I also admired the distinctive old houses and cultural and creative shops. Walking along the street towards Anping Fort and Anping Tree House, you can gain a deeper understanding of the history and stories of this land. This is not only a paradise for food, but also a tourist destination full of cultural heritage that is worth savoring.

Clean and well kept hotel. Very close to the train station (just across the road) and next to a shopping mall. However, would still need to take uber to other sights of Tainan.
Check in took quite a while as we had 2 rooms booked under Trip.com. Originally gave us only one room with a Trip.com voucher which indicated 2 rooms. After checking for a fairly long while, they found the other room. Quite surprised of this service standard from shangri-la brand of hotels.
We booked 2 nights and early morning which is around 8+am, housekeeping came knocking on our door to want to clean and tidy the room while we were still in bed. Asked how long we needed to let her in to clean the room. Was speechless as this is the first time we had such an encounter.

I stayed in this hotel in this April, which is a wonderful experience. Thus, I brought my family (total 4) to stay in this hotel again. Unfortunately, the experience of this time is not pleasant.
First of all, as i m the IHG member, I am entitled to have welcome drink. Last time, we can drink in the lobby lounge, but this time, the waitress declined us to take the drink at the lounge and requested us to take away the drinks. Whats ridiculous?! The welcome drink is offered by the hotel, but i m not wrlcome to drink at the lounge.
Secondly, the cleaning service is not pleasant, two cups in my room have not been cleaned.
Thirdly, the food serving of beef soup is very unsatisfactory. I don't understand why I requested to have more soup and got a black face from the chef.
I spent over US$600 for two nights, but seems not be welcomed from the lounge nor restaurant. I would not recommend others to stay in this luxury but not welcome hotelFromIDR 2,264,584

The hotel is conveniently located near Tainan Railway Station. Just to clarify, this is the conventional (TRA) train station, not the High-Speed Rail (HSR) station. If you arrive by HSR, you can catch a local train from Shalun Station to Tainan Station; trains depart every half hour. Rooms are quite spacious, but the sound insulation isn't great – you can easily hear activity from outside the door. They were so good to upgrade my husband and I to a bigger room for a family though we didn’t necessarily need it, but it was a good upgrade. The staff was very kind. It was a little hard to find the place, but at least there was a sign outside of the hallway to get you basically where you needed to go. Laundry was VERY limited. They didn’t say that, but they should have because there were only 2 washers and dryers for 200+ rooms and they were only open from 8a-10:30p, not 24 hours. The room size was just right, and the two twin beds were comfortable. It was quiet.
The bay window in the room offered a wide view.
The hotel's location is excellent. In front, there's the Museum of Justice and an art gallery, and next to it, there's the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store. It's only a ten-to-fifteen-minute walk to popular spots like Chihkan Tower, Hayashi Department Store, and West Market.
The hotel lobby is tall, bright, spacious, and elegant, with comfortable seating. Both the front desk staff and the doorman were very polite. A special shout-out to Cai Renqin from the restaurant: when we mentioned the pizza crust was a bit too burnt, he immediately had the kitchen remake one, even though we had already eaten half of it, and made sure the new one was to our liking. He was very polite and responsible, truly deserving of praise.
The breakfast was very extensive and served until 11 AM, which is great for guests who prefer to sleep in. The spa facilities were also complete and spacious, not stingy at all.

My stay at FX Hotel Tainan completely redefined my expectations for a budget hotel! The location is absolutely superb – Chihkan Tower and Guohua Street Food District are just a 10-minute walk away, and the Shennong Street cultural and creative area is also within easy reach. Just a left turn downstairs and you'll find a 7-Eleven; to the right, there are famous Lu Rou Fan (braised pork rice) and beef soup restaurants. For late-night cravings, heading straight to Bao'an Road Night Market was pure bliss! ✨
The mattress had just the right firmness, and the bathroom featured a separate wet and dry area.
🚗 Transportation is incredibly convenient too! It's only an 8-minute drive from Tainan Railway Station.
Overall, it's perfect for budget-conscious travelers who still value quality. For your Tainan trip, you definitely can't go wrong staying here!

We like Just Sleep Hotel Tainan because it is very clean, beautiful and modern. The beds are really comfortable and feel like clouds when we slept on them. Having previously stayed at the ”Tainan Rongmei Golden Tulip Hotel,” I learned that the same group also owns the ”Tainan Rongxing Golden Tulip Hotel,” located not far from Tainan Railway Station. Several Michelin-reviewed Bib Gourmand restaurants are nearby, and Far Eastern Department Store is diagonally opposite. Chihkan Tower is also within easy walking distance, making its location relatively convenient.
After checking in, I took the elevator to my room. The decor was reminiscent of a noble family home, with even the wall decorations, carpets, tables, chairs, and tiles exuding elegance. Although the room wasn't large, it was adequate. The wine glass rack in the cabinet was superb; even five-star hotels might not have such a touch. The teacups and saucers provided in the drawers, the headboard, and the artwork gave me a royal feeling.

This is a luxury type of hostel experience. I really enjoyed my stay there. The decor, furnishings, amenities and lovely staff are of extremely high quality. The rooms are quite nice as well. You have your own room with premium bedding. Instead of a door, there is a curtain, so you need to be mindful of noise created since it will carry through the whole area. Each room has six individual rooms I believe. The units have a very easy to use safe under the bed. The bathrooms are quite clean and have high quality dryers and other amenities. The gym left some weights to be desired, although in their defense it is billed as a ”mini-gym.” It has two stationary bikes and one treadmill. I noticed some yoga mats and foam rollers in the common area. The wifi was great and I was able to work without issue. Loved the location as well, quite convenient to get around, and also easy to walk to the bus station. I recently stayed at the Tainan Wei-Yat Grand Hotel and found it to be incredibly clean, with well-maintained rooms and excellent amenities that made my stay comfortable. However, the location is a bit inconvenient. The nearest bus stop is an 8-minute walk away, with a limited timetable, making it challenging if you're coming from Tainan Station. Additionally, while the breakfast offered a variety of options, I found the food selection less delicious than advertised. I think their check in and check out time is very short. Highly recommend this place if you're traveling solo to Tainan!
Firstly, the location is excellent. You'll find many fantastic eateries nearby, including Du Hsiao Yueh, Shrimp Rice, and Pan Shu-Feng's House. Shennong Street, Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park, and Hayashi Department Store are all within easy walking distance. There's even a YouBike station right in front of the hotel! 😄
Having the bathroom inside the room could be both a pro and a con. Personally, I'm not sensitive to noise, so it wasn't an issue for me. But if you arrive late, there's also a shower room on the B1 level available for use.

We had a great stay at Kindness Day Hotel. The staff were very kind, and the private underground parking was a plus. We loved the free evening snacks, ice cream, and drink at the bar — a nice touch if you don’t want to stay in your room. Breakfast had plenty of options, and everything was well organized despite the crowds. The relaxed vibe and late check-out made it even better.
