A group of 4 friends were looking for lunch on a Monday - many pubs/Restaurants do NOT open on that weekday. A phone call a week before accepted our booking and we had looked up the menu on their website. So far so good, but no mention of a 15% lunch-time discount not the 12% DISCRETIONARY service charge! Two shocks we Octogenarians were NOT expecting. On arrival in the front hallway was a table with leaflets scattered to whit - copy attached showing a 15% lunchtime discount. We had our meal and drinks, that were quite acceptable and no complaints other than portions were too large for some ? The bill arrived and it was only on the 2nd round the table check as to what each paid that we discovered the 12% DISCRETIONARY service charge and no 15% lunchtime special. I Later called the owner name not given and he replied " I expect you enjoyed your meal - we stopped the 15% in January and you will note the red cross (faded) running through that offer" - He went on to say he had stopped the 15% in JANUARY but a family member kept placing the pamphlets on the front desk. I have waited a week after he promised to look into it and nothing, so here is my review. We as a group lunch once a month around Kent & Sussex WE have in 2 years never come across such a weasel speak - wriggle room approach to excuses, I also have not come across any establishment charging 12% for basic service charge, nothing special in this case - and as if we should not have" enjoyed " our meal? The very mixed reviews on here from 5 - 1 and those "1" would be ZERO if it could done? Sprat to catch a Mackerel comes to mind here glib responses and not at all bothered about reviews ??
