We stayed at the Days Inn in Rutland for 2 nights. The entire duration there was almost non-stop construction work going on immediately outside of our room window (pressure washing and scraping) and outside of our room door (power tools, circular saws, jack hammering). The construction would start as early as around 7am and continue into the evening. We weren't given any heads up that this work would be going on or any kind of discount to accommodate.
Part way through the first day I noticed a dead bug in the bed that looked like a tick. I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt and assumed maybe it had come in on one of us (even though it's highly unlikely during winter). A couple of days after our stay I developed itchy bumps all over my body. Doing research these bumps look exactly like bed bug bites and the dead bug I found in the bed was exactly what a bed bug looks like.
Finally, the room was not clean. There were what looked like rodent droppings on the TV stand. The walls were very visibly warped. We couldn't get cold water out of the sink and had to use the tub.
This was probably the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. I will say though that with all of the reservation work they were doing during our stay perhaps it will be much nicer in the near future. But we won't be staying there again.
