拉榭釀酒廠酒店(Isle of Raasay Distillery)

This was an awesome hotel, attached to a cool distillery, on the wild and beautiful Isle of Raasay. Pros: stylish, modern, cute little hotel with thoughtful amenities including a free dram in your room alongside yummy local shortbread cookies. Great views and location, walkable from the ferry and easy to stroll to the neighboring hotel for dinner (since our little hotel couldn’t provide dinner service every night). Breakfast (included with our stay) was delicious! I had fresh fruit, coffee, and a full Scottish breakfast. One thing I loved about this hotel was the guest lounge, a private room overlooking the sea with sofas and chairs, a fireplace, board games and an honor bar. We played Scottish monopoly and cards here before and after dinner. Adorable. Did I mention they offer a free distillery tour with tastings for hotel guests? I did the one with a chocolate pairing upgrade and it was great. So happy with our stay here.

Arrived on the early ferry on Sunday morning and as check-in wasn't until 4pm took a trip along to Calum's Road which I highly recommend for some breathtaking scenery. Upon arrival back at the hotel we were treated to a tour of the distillery which was included in our stay free of charge which was a very nice touch. The tour was very informative and as well as taking us through the whisky and gin making process provided us with some background into the ethos of the distillery (the fact that the distillery and hotel now employs roughly 30% of the island is to be commended). Our room was beautifully furnished and had an amazing view of the Cuillin mountains on Skye, and even came with a complimentary bottle of Raasay Single Malt whisky! Again a very nice touch. The highlight of our stay was dinner which was served in the gathering room, again with beautiful views back towards Skye. We were presented with a 6 course tasting menu which was very reasonably priced for the quality of food and its presentation. I would honestly struggle to pick a favourite dish as they were all delicious but the rhubarb & custard dessert was exceptional. As some previous reviewers have mentioned, the location of the distillery & hotel is fairly remote, with the only way on and off of the island being by ferry. However I feel that this absolutely added to our experience, with the unspoilt scenery of the island providing an amazing backdrop a relaxing night away. All in all the distillery provided an exceptional experience from start to finish and I would highly recommend a stay.

The hotel is situated on a lovely small island and housed in a lovely building with great facilities but some of the staff and the levels of service let the place down. For example: • It can take an age to be served at the bar. • The breakfast facilities were not readily replenished, despite asking a few times. • The cooked breakfast was overcooked and very dry. • One of our rooms had not been replenished properly (two tea bags with enough milk for two cups only). The distillery tour and tasting was very good. The guide very knowledgeable. Despite the above we had a lovely time on Raasay and loved the views from the common areas of the hotel hence the four-star review.

What a truly excellent place. I was a solo traveller but was made very welcome by the staff. The location is spectacular with lots of great walks nearby. The hotel itself is done to a very high standard. Comfortable rooms with nice touches like a sample of whisky left for your enjoyment. Really liked the lounge area with a honesty bar. The tour of the distillery was very informative. Can't rave enough about this place and if I didnt live in NZ i would be a regular visitor.

This hotel was a terrible all-around experience. The room was decent and had a nice view, but aside from that there was nothing good about it. Mainly, unless you plan to strictly stay on the island of Raasay your entire stay, then the location and access to the hotel is really bad. The only way to get to the hotel is a via an unreliable ferry. The worst part about that is the hotel is not transparent with customers about the fact that the ferry frequently gets cancelled, which in our case, left us without a place to stay and stranded on the main Isle of Skye for the night. We received multiple welcome emails from the hotel giving the details of the required ferry, with none ever mentioning the possibility that the ferry could get cancelled at any time and that if that happens, you will not receive a refund for the nights you couldn't access the hotel. What was even more ridiculous was on the night we couldn't get to the hotel, it seems no other guests could either. So because of that, when we arrived at the hotel the next morning to get our stuff, all the lights were off, no one was attending the front desk, and no breakfast was provided even though that was supposed to be included. So no refund, and they didn't even provide the promised services. In the end, this hotel needs to be more honest with potential customers, provide better service, and communicate more effectively. If the staff had merely told us the night we checked in that there was a possibility the ferry could be cancelled the next day, we would have probably not gotten stranded, or at least we would have know to bring our bags with us just in case. Another completely separate blunder was when the hotel staff told us they made us a dinner reservation, but then when we went to dinner, the restaurant had no record of the reservation. Stay away unless they greatly improve their service, communication, and transparency about the risks of this location.

A very knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide! He was a bit rushed at the end during the tasting itself. We wanted the chocolate part but couldn’t book it (although members of our tour group could). If you don’t want to take the whiskys/gin tasting then (for instance, I was driving back), you can ask to take them, but I didn’t know until after.

Visited in June 2021. Building has been beautifully renovated and is a pleasant environment. Staff were very helpful. Because it is an old building, the room we got wasn't standard size and we struggled to fit a travel cot. Would have paid for a bigger room if I had known. Restaurant is probably the nicest setting I have had for an evening meal. The room itself is beautiful, bright, modern and has possibly one of the best views from a restaurant in Scotland. Food was very nice and staff were helpful and friendly and knew what they were doing. Because of this dinner experience and overall hotel experience I was so disappointed in the breakfast. I ordered a cooked breakfast and to this day I have never had a worse hotel cooked breakfast. I feel awful saying it because everything else about the place was great. Perhaps the chef on the breakfast shift was just having a bad day and wanted to cut corners but almost every item of the cooked breakfast was luke-warm to cold, and hard. I literally couldn't bite into the tattie scone (this was devastating because in my opinion the tattie scone is the best bit of a cooked breakfast) and I don't understand how it is possible to serve a tattie scone in that state. Did they cook it the night before and just attempt to microwave it in the morning?! Thats what most of the items seemed like. With such a nice setting and a nice dinner the previous evening I was hugely disappointed by the so called 'cooked' breakfast. The coffee was 10/10 though and I would like to come back in future and have an improved cooked breakfast!

Fijne ervaring in dit prachtige hotel: mooie kamer, heerlijk ontbijt, vriendelijk personeel, een interessante tour doorheen het whisky en ginbedrijfje en de geschiedenis van het eiland. Mogelijkheid om te dineren: verzorgd en lekker. Je hebt al snel het gevoel: wanneer kom ik terug?

The rooms here were very cozy and comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast and free distillery tour/tasting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Scenery around the hotel was gorgeous and unforgettable.
