We booked this hotel ”sight unseen” via Hotwire. Previously, we had good experiences with any hotels booked that way, however, Quality Inn Dickinson taught us otherwise. First off, the receptionist was not really friendly or courteous. We checked in around 7pm, so not terrible late that we would have woken her up from a nap in the middle of the night. She checked us in with minimal amounts of words spoken. Second, the hotel was not full by any means, and while I appreciate a quite room in the back of the hotel, our room was in the back of the hotel. We walked the entire length of the 2nd floor to find our room to be the very last room. Kind of weird and a bit creepy. Third, while the room had been remodeled and updated, I'm not sure when the room was cleaned the last time. The bathroom floor had dead flies and bugs, the toilet was dirty, shampoo/conditioner bottles were half-empty, and a used bar of soap was lying on the sink. Not really acceptable, even in normal, pre-Covid times. Fourth, the TV had one channel - some local sports channel, nothing else. Fifth, the mattress was horrible --- it may have been ok a few years ago, but mattresses wear out. Sixth, breakfast consisted of cold coffee, some yogurt, and boxes of dry cereal and milk. Not sure if this was due to the Chines Virus, or if that's just how breakfast is done there. Overall, if your only choice of spending a cold Dakota winter night is in your car and half-way freezing to death, then yes, the so-called Quality Inn is better than being out in the elements. However, if you have a sturdy diesel truck that you can run all night to keep you warm, then sleeping in it might actually be a better choice.
